Think of it like a monopoly. what the hells the fun in that when one guy owns all the land?

Surely some mods aren't fit to what others wan't. Maybe most ww2 mods will suck. who knows. But theres gotta be some kinda competition right? So what if all mods are gonna be like counter-strike, if you can think of something totally original, please. i'm all ears.

well we know half-life 2 wasn't the first to come up with the idea of an alien invasion. we know doom wasn't the first to come up with demons wandering the mars (or was it? hmm). anyways. think about it, most games now have something to do with scientific experiments going wrong or something. or what about zombies? oh lord, like that hasn't been done 100 times. or what about vampires? every author has his own ways with them, some stories vampires are allergic to garlic. others aren't. whatever. Personally in my opinion, i don't think it's right to tell someone they can't come up with a mod idea, because the idea is "similar".

So why is it good for people to make mods? Because it's the future of gaming, and modding. Theres nothing being "reserved". Go, make your game.

and cheers. don't EVER pass up anything in your lifetime.. life is too short.

in my opinion everibody wants make mod cuz they like games and want to make theyr owns

or maybe will teamup whit some team

if you want to know my idea is a tread were say "Xen Wars"

Now that PC doen't have the internet to itself, Mods are the biggest advantage PCs have over console. (I'm a PC fanboy).

Mods are great. Many don't come to fruition or just outright suck, but they expand the definition of a game and give it tremendous replay value. I mean the top two mod companies ATM are Epic and Valve.

Epic sponsored a contest to give 1 million$ to the best mod, and Almost all of Valve's developmental staff personally mentors certain mod teams.

Its a very good thing that any gamer gets the power of a next-gen engine at their finger tips. And its even better when they are succussful. The very fact that a gaming audience is encouraged to have dedication is good not just for games, but life. It makes PC gaming more than passive, and it causes us to have more respect for games themselves.

If anthing modding drives us closer and closer to when PC/Video games will be considered a valid art form.

and why not the consoles games will be considered art?

I know that the advantage of PC over consoles are the moding and stuff

but PC-videogames and Consoles-videogames are the same, videogames the point is not to make the best mod the point is to make a videogame whit great quality and be considered as art, are many PC and consoles games that must be considered art

(but you say that you are a PCfanboy soo you will quote what I write and you will say that consoles are the worst human invention and every console must be burned and you will to flame people whit consoles, the point is why hate consoles? just cuz you cant mod consoles games the consoles must be hated? I like PC and consoles and in my opinion is anoying that the people start to say that consoles suck or PC sucks and if we see they are the same, machines to play videogames so whats the big deal about hate consoles?)

Well first is productive and it can win you a Ticket to play with the big Boys.
Also the idea of making your own game, kind of appeals ...

yep, game companies get more people buying the game if they have good mods, and the modders get to create their dream game. everybody wins

i think he might be talking about Vampire Slayer.... a good mod until you actually play if then its gay and you never want to hear its name again!

Mods allow people like me the ability to put their thoughts and dreams and ideas out. They dont always turn out the greatest because lack of skill or time, but that doesnt limit their power. Without mods I think alot of progress that we have in gaming might have been lost, there are alot of things mod makers come up with that a professional studio just wont try. When there is no money, thats when you make it to your liking, not to a schedule.

On the note of games becoming an artform, technically they already are, but again it takes time for everyone to agree. Ultimately though, not everyone will agree, but it will be respected as an artform. I cant wait to see what gaming will be like in 20 years, I hope to be apart of the next 20 years of gaming, and have influence on it, but that remains to be seen. The internet really helps games out console and pc alike as becoming an artform, because people like us spread the word and make it possible for people not in the know to understand. Time will tell, but I know we are the future.
