why is 5.8GB of my harddrive unable to be defragmented?

lol, well i'm glad we got the problem narrowed down. My resources should be enough, i have 17% free, and it only needs 15% to do it. The patches shouldn't be corrupt, i mean everything works properly. And i don't have a partitian, i do have a second harddrive though.

Are you defragging in normal boot up windows? If so, boot up into safe mode and do defragging, its much better IMO.

On this pc does something similiar, even tho it has the 15% free it still doesn't defrag everything, I think it needs more than 15% maybe 25-30% before it will defrag everything, who knows. XP is wierd.

On my gaming pc, both my HDD's will defrag without a hitch, lowest on my 40gig was 34%.

Defragging does nothing to system performance. Theoretically, it does, but it doesn't.

Right.....Pull head from arse much? I guess not.

It does help with system performance, you're trying to say a HDD with thousands of fragmented files will run the same as a HDD with no fragmented files? RIGHT!

According to Leo Laporte from g4tech TV, "After you're through [defraggin], all your files will be optimized and in one place. You should notice an improvement in the speed of your computer right away."

When TechTV was still TechTV and G4 didn't pwn it yet, they did a lot of experiments with "speeding up your system." They cleaned the registery; little to no effect. Defragged; little to no effect. Added a simple 512MB of RAM; up to 30% or so. Meh, whatever.

Rofl, just a week ago, they did another experiment, xcellerate. He said that exact opposite thing.

I don't know what you are talking about Qonfused, but after I defragged, my games loaded atleast 50 percent faster. Same with anyone else I've talked to. They were the ones that recommended I defrag, because of this.

I can notice drastic differences after defragging, but that may be because my HD gets pretty sloppy after a while.

Even if it is bumpkus, I'll do it anyway, if only for the nice placebo effect.

Well, let's just put it this way: out of 200GB, I'm using 48GB. In other words, that's not a lot, so I guess I wouldn't see a speed increase. Whatever. Forget I said anything.
