The Christian Right, which is pretty adamant about stifling this sort of thing, is the main culprit, I believe. Talk show hosts use this topic because it's hot and it'll grab an audience.

This is why I think the rating system should be fine. Put right on the game what will be in it. If enough people were offended by flowers, just make up another rating for them. "Caution: contains flowers". If you don't want to see people having sex, don't buy games that have this content, don't buy/play the game.

Many people have different beliefs, and think that the only purpose of sex is to concive a child when you're married. If you've been taught this all your life, and you suddenly see couples having sex for enjoyment, then you'd be pretty offended. You'd also have a boring life, but that's not the point.
