Why won't STEAM download the patch for me?

I've restarted STEAM multiple times, left it running overnight, etc.... but STILL I show no activity when I look at the Monitor.

I *do*, however, have the mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware option in the console... but am not convinced that this is proof that the patch downloaded (wouldn't I see *some* indication in the STEAM monitor??).

Further, my version number of the executable is 1.0.1.0 built on the 2nd of Nov.

Any thoughts??

I'm confused about this myself. I have the command as well but there's nothing else to say that anything has updated. I'm miffed by the whole thing now. It's getting beyond a joke. I might just get my refund from Amazon & call it a day. I'll re-purchase when Valve have finished Beta testing HL2.

I've been speaking to Yahn @ Valve & in one e-mail I asked him about the patch;

But just to confirm (I'm still confused about as there's so many different things being said on-line) - The patch enables the new command in the console 'Mat_forcetextureintohardware'. So if I've got that command, I've got the patch? I can't find any other way of telling if anything actually downloaded. I need to confirm this before I send you any more images/vids because for all I know I might not even have it yet.

He just replied saying, "Yes, That was added in the update".

Good 1. So it was a white elephant then? Oh well, Back to the drawing board.

Just sent this back;

But it doesn't make any difference! Is this supposed to stop the stutter problem? Who's testing this stuff Stevie Wonder? Why didn't you send the patch out to a few people who have this problem & are willing to test it? I'd be up for it - Things can't really get any worse for my game at the moment.

A bit cold but so was the patch. Besides which I'm getting a bit sick of all this now :-(
