Introducing the beta of YouTube Rentals, a pay-to-view model on YouTube. Providing content owners a new way to generate revenue on the site, YouTube Rentals allows partners greater flexibility to monetize a variety of videos, provides full control over their content, and allows content owners to tap into the world's largest online video community.

So where's the next best video streaming site? Pretty sure this will only affect things like music videos, but that's enough to stress me out.

Yeah I'd also guess this is just for legit movies/tv shows and perhaps music videos from large mainstream record labels. Don't really see anyone else doing this.

This has been around for a while... I remember seeing rental videos up maybe 6 months ago or more...

Makes sense to me. It's not like morons who think people will pay to see videos of their cat will last long. This is for legitamate films and shows.

I can actually see this as being a good thing. It will allow tv shows and movies to be accessed legitimately over the net like music is now.
On the other hand if every tool starts renting out their crap movies and I have to wade through them to find videos I want to watch it will kill the site.

If this is going to mean DRM-less on-demand movies I will probably be spending a lot more on them. Although I don't like the idea of giving my money and even more information about me to Google.

It's basically the same thing as Netflix, when you think about it. I also have a feeling this might put Google on the users' side when it comes to bandwidth caps, and an ally like Google is hard to pass up.

I assume you will be able to filter out all videos that are required to be rented, and as said I think this can be a good thing.

netflix is all you can eat for a set fee. this per unit pricing so the opposite of netflix.

I'd only pay if the quality was decent and it wasnt available anywhere else

Sweet. Can't wait to be denied even more region-specific content!

I wish more aspects of humanity and the social fabric could be commoditized on the capitalist free market :(

So what if I'm looking for a specific scene in a movie, because of a funny line or whatever. I get the feeling that will no longer be possible. And I've already noticed in the past few months clips of movies or shows being removed. This is so emma and julia.
