Why's this happenin

Well here's a new one, even for me. I have recently changed countries and was previously playing HL2 with no problems ( several months ago). I bought my computer with me but bought a new moniter (only change).
Now HL2 installs ok...steam is ok...but when I go to start a new game, it loads up to the 17th white rectangular square on the loading page, then stops...no more...9 installs later, online, offline, without firewall, with firewall, makes no difference...17 white squares and that's it...anyone got any ideas.

How long have you waited it to load?
If it's the first time your playing after a format, it needs to cache and create **** before it plays.

have waited 15 minutes for it to load at the longest...there was no format of my computer...uninstalled game before leaving one country 9 months ago..tried reinstalling this week after finally unpacking the container...

Maybe your PC does not like foreign power? Sounds dumb, but the PSU could run better where you used to live... Correct me if I'm wrong, but different countries do have different voltages from the wall plugs, right?

Also, is Half-Life 2 the only program that's screwing up?
