Wierd problem please read

Recently, since yesterday, when ever i play the game it runs perfect and everything is ok. except when ever i press the Buy button or Press M to switch teams, the size of the screen shrinks. What could be the problem? Its annoying, like 2 inches around the entire edge of the screen is blacked out.

no, i don't use any cheats at all. everything is normal, except when ever i press buy or M to change teams(i guess when ever there is a option screen that comes on the screen for you to click on) there is a black border around it. let me get a screen shot.

looks like your pushing some sort of zoom out button. hell i dont know lol. make sure that button isnt the zoom out button i guess.

i dunno but its annoying as hell and i wasnt it fixed. if you notice everything is cut off. look at my armor and shield. its all cut off. HELP...

do you have one of those keyboards with a 2nd function key. Maybe the second function for M is zoom in/out. Make sure you dont have your 2nd function key enabled if you have one....other than that i dont know what could be the problem

Type in the console "bind b" and "bind m" and tell us what it says.

Did you try binding the changeteam and buymenu to different keys ingame? This should tell you if it's a problem inside CS or with another program.

reinstall bro... u can see the vgui menus cut at te borders. try reinstalling and see if the prob persists

b says buyweapon
m says chooseteam

here's another picture that shows how my health is cut off and everything is cut off around the perimeter. i really don't feel like reinstalling it took for ever and can't be good for the HD to delete something this big and reinstalling.

Ok guys, i finally broke down and uninstalled half life and reinstalled it. Its still doing the same thing, its really annoying please help.

well, if you look around the edges, it is not displaying transparency (little bit of white)

is the black just replacing transparent space, or does it literally take everything and reduce the resolution?

what resolution is the background set to, what resolution do you run the game in, and what screen type and size do you have?

try the following: use options to enable the console, and press "`" tilde. now, in the box type "unbind all" go to your key options and set up yourself controls. Just use something other than the defaults, this may help.

Do you have widescreen mode running? Or is that for just HL2?

everything around the edges outside of the menus(B, M) are blacked out. This only happens when B, M are pressed, but during normal game play it works perfect. I'm running 1440x900 resolution on a 16:10 scale on a 17" wide screen laptop with 128 geforce video card. 3.2 giga HT, 1 gig ram.

Thanks, i finally figured out the problem. i went to this forum for my laptop and someone suggested that i downgrade my video driver and it fixed the problem. i was using a unreleased beta version of a video driver which was causing all this headache and annoyance, but now that i went back to a official release driver i'm getting about 40-45 fps and no more problems.

The laptop i have is a HP ZD7000, i freakin love this laptop its got a very very nice 17" widescreen WITH brightview that looks absolutely great. it even has a full size keyboard and keypad. love it.
