Im having trouble with my ram i bought. i bought a stick of 512 mb to add to the 512 stick i already had. but, the new card was only registering as a 256 mb card. I swaped the two cards around to see if maybe the new card was bad. but, its not. the new card was now reading as a 512 in the other slot, and the older card was now reading as 256 in the slot i first put the new one in. i know for sure my computer supports a gig of ram. is it possible it is using the gig, but its just not showing it?

HERES A FEW OTHER THINGS I TRIED:

- updated my system bios. but dident fix the problem.

- blowed out the ram slots, and everything else with compressed air.

SYSTEM SPECS:

- P4 2.4 ghz
- windows xp home
- 2 512 mb ddr sdram sticks (but its only reading 768, and not the full 1024 mb)
- ati radeon 9600 pro.

thanks for looking.

What mobo do you have? and did you try them in different ram slots then 1&2? does your mobo support that much ram?

..

How do i find out what my mobo is? is there any type of programs that test memory?

btw, i only have 2 slots for memory.

ur mobo manual.. invoice from the place u bought it, it also shows when u boot and it says on the board it self. I guess theres a few progs wich can see it but u probably need to get them from the comany wich made the mb. ie asus gigabyte msi soltek ECS etc etc.
