My sister is going to New York for a few days. If she picks up a Wii will it only work on an American TV, play American games? My guess is yes (And the plug isn't a problem, we have an American - 3 pin adapter around here somewhere)

That question is kind of specific. I'd email their customer service dpt... Guessing it would be fine, however.

Would work on an English TV. But American games only. And there is no word on how connection to the Virtual Console and game servers would work in the UK.

It'd be fine. Games would have to be imported (get them earlier, cheaper, and more likely 480p support) and it'd work on your tv. It's unclear how the online services will work, but I very much doubt there will be a problem. At worst I can see you having to connect to US servers.

I'd go for it if I were you. I've just had to cancel a US preorder due to insufficient supply and am gutted :/

I'm wondering if I should go with importing. Us UK folks get ****ed out of everything good and holy.
Anyone got any Cons to do with it? Or is it all pros?

Depends on if it requires modding/chipping to use the imports, because companies like MS for example, blacklist consoles totally if they notice one going online in any way and detect a modification to the hardware I think :)

Cons:

If your Wii turns up busted then you'll have to post it back at your expense. This wouldn't concern me, especially with a Nintendo machine - they're very well made.

You have to wait about a week for games after ordering - no impulse buys or crazy bargain bucket deals.

The rest is all good - cheaper games released earlier. There's usually a few gems that never make it onto pal too.

However, it's very unlikely you'll get an imported Wii before Christmas now. I'm getting a pal machine just to have Zelda over the holidays. Fingers crossed Nintendo don't completely **** things up like they did with the snes, N64 and GC in europe.

Depends on the power supply in Ireland, it might just blow the Wii up with a power surge :)

Get a step-down transformer just in case.
