I know the Wii will be able to play GC games, will it go further than this? Such as N64 games?

I've not heard much on this, I imagine you have to download the games or do GC disks fit? Will downloading the games cost in some way? So much I want to know about this. :p

Mutely, not an answer to your question, but my understanding is that while the Wii will be able to read GC games, you will need a GC controller in order to play those games. The buttons on the nunchuck and the remote, let alone the motion sensors, apparently won't work with GC games.

GC discs can magically slide right into the drive just like Wii games (all games will be compatible). There are also 4 GC controller slots on the top of the system along with 2 GC memory card slots. There are N64, SNES, NES, Sega, and other console games coming to the Virtual Console for download as well.

Downloading these games will cost money.

Nintendo has stated that the Wii console will be backward compatible with all GameCube software and most peripherals. This backwards compatibility is achieved with the help of the slot-loading drive being able to accept GameCube discs, and a set of four GameCube controller ports and two Memory Card slots, concealed by flip-open panels. It has been reported that the use of a GameCube controller is required to play GameCube games and that the Classic Controller will not function in this regard. Nintendo has stated that the Wii console will not be compatible with the GameCube modem adapter, broadband adapter, Game Boy Player, AV cable, or AC adaptor.
...

All (read: most) games previous to the Gamecube will be download-able for $8, iirc.

but where will the games be saved? does the Wii come with an internal hard drive? what if I want to play those games on another Wii?

It comes with a 1/2 GB flash memory... so with that, I doubt they're saved.

yes, GC games compatible.

You can get NES, SNES, N64, and several other consoles' games via the Wii's Virtual Console service, for dirt-cheap prices. They will be saved to internal memory or on a memory card.

If the games are downloaded and then accidentally deleted, is the user allowed to download them again at no cost?

Cool, so if (I hope it will be available anyway) got N64 Goldeneye, would I need to use a GC controller? Woo, this would be sweet. :D

I bet when you buy games you create a user account, so it knows which you have bought, allowing you to re-download them. I can imagine torrents would be handy, if you store them on SD cards though. :p

Only problem is, in all the lists I've seen for VC games, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark won't be available until Post June 2007. If then.

Perfect Dark is owned by Rare ... I doubt MS will let Nintendo sell it.

Then again I have no idea how the licensing for third party titles will be handled by Nintendo.

I still don't see the advantage of this over using emulators. For all this talk of originality and innovation, MS and Sony are actually doing much more with their downloadable arcade games than Nintendo is by re-releasing old games that are already available for free.

Yeah, the data saying you paid for it is stored by Nintendo, so even if you delete the game you can re-download it (like Steam).

"Why won't my N64 cartridges fit into the Wiidrive daddy!?"

EDIT:

Oh, and I have to add... "Because it's not a Wii son. It's a Nintendo Revolution."

Now that I've continued my boycott of the Wii name, I can continue on.

But it's technically not Rare that owned the game once it was completed, it was nintendo? I just would have thought that since Nintendo are just uploading the original nintendo cartridge data to a server, then it's still their property...

It's a shame though if it can't be sold.

i saw the Wii at EB tonight, cant say it looks good......at all......:(

Not in America. Only in Europe.

I went to EB the other day, an EB here in America, to buy a screen protector for my DS and they had products with the name "Gamestop" written on their boxes. I asked the clerk whether Gamestop and EB were the same thing and he said "yes."

So is Gamestop the same company as Game? How do all these relate or don't they?

I think Gamestop is probably the US equivalent, yes.

And were you disappointed graphically, or just disliked the console itself?

Licensing issues with rare, probably(MS bought rare, and probably isn't too eager to allow some of the best n64 games to be up for download)

They're doing bugger all with them though :(
