We are getting closer and closer to the perfect lightsaber game :)

No longer simply mapping swipes/movement to ingame moves, wiimote movements can be accurately tracked and represented in realtime in a 3d game world.

It's early days - I doubt we're going to see the full potential of the wiimote/nunchuck/motion plus etc for a generation or two - but still exciting. The potential for this is huge - imagine Oblivion with combat that puts your arm and weapon into the game.

Can't check out the video right now, but you mentioned TES: Oblivion.

Keep in mind Oblivion uses pre-conceived animations, and there are several weapon strike animations and that's it.

Now, I'm not really sure how it's done, but you'd need some kind of ragdoll way of doing the animation, so that your character on screen can swing his weapon in the hundreds of ways that we can move our arm. So the animation would have to be rendered on the fly or something.

The guy goes into that a little in the vid - mapping player motion to more professional looking animations (not that you'd need to - they could just have your arm/weapon in the screen doing exactly what it's doing out of it). Your movements will be mapped directly in 3d in realtime, not shoehorned into fitting a tiny number of animations.

I thought this was the whole point of the Wii to begin with.

I felt gipped pretty hard when I bought it.

This should be good, but I'm not going to pay for it LOL

Yeah - I think most people thought the Wiimote would do this when announced. It turned out to simply be a pointing device with basic motion sensing. Still excellent when used right, but too many crappy developers have used it poorly and tainted quite a few people's impressions.

Still, i'm a sucker for innovations and anything that's new is a day one purchase. I still get wowed by moving the world in Kororinpa and watching the ball roll about.

Yay! Now the Wii can do what it should have been able to do in the first place!

My question is, does the Wii have the processing power to handle 1-to-1 animations and 1-to-1 damage and all that? I don't think the Wii can process the physics to make it worthwhile.

If I slice a block of wood across the top, I'm pretty sure it's still going to split right down the middle. And you can imagine other scenarios.

The 1-to-1 control is going to make the current system of basically having hitboxes around "damage points" look ridiculous.

We'll see. There's many things that could be down with this - just imagine what Pilot Wings could be like. And even if every movement wasn't accurately mapped you could still have a great deal of control. You could have, say, 15 or so animations for basic sword swipes and stabs and already that would give far more options than a joypad or m&k would allow. Low swipe to the feet under a shield, a stab to the top right shoulder, diagonal cut to finish. Add the nunchuck - I hope that gets something similar to MotionPlus at some point - and you'll be shield bashing and blocking with ease.

IGN posted a Red Steel 2 trailer, its going to use M+, looks like there is a chance this one might be good.

I get tired after a long day of work. keyboard and mouse is all i can muster usually.

Nintendo has no problems sacrificing graphics to make up some slick new graphics engine.

They could use old school blocky polygons or something.

I would actually like to see them do a nunchuck game where you hit fools with nunchucks. First person pref
