I was wondering if a 6600 gt will be able to run the inreal 3 engine.
anybody know?

I would say probably but close to minimum settings and resolution. I have heard before that a 6800 Ultra would run some unreal 3 games at max settings at 1024x768.

So going by that I would say 800x600 low detail. All of this is very rough no gaurentees.

Remember that the 6600GT is a year old card and U3 engine is a 2006 card so it should run it. Why would it not support 2 year old and older (DX9) cards? If it didnt there would be only a hanfull of people who could run the game. Dont think U3 is not efficient, most of the detail is normall maps and characters have "only" maybe 5000 triangles (taken from their site).

/me enters train conductor mode

*all stop!*

Predicting performance is impossible for games that are not yet released. If you really want to run U3 engine, wait till the game that will be featuring it is released. Saying a 6600 gt will or won't run U3 engine is absolutely wrong because nobody knows. Not even the developers know because the game is still in development!

*all ahead full!*

Yep. I agree. Get a 6800Ultra SLI or a 7800GTX if you want to play it well.

Nvidia /me shudders

Get a CrossfireSystem.

Greater performance, image quality and it uses less power. All with the added bonus of hack free catalyst drivers.

Or do like Blahblahblah says and wait and see.

By the time U3 hits the shelves they're be a tonne of new cards on the market anyho. And buying a £500-£800 solution today for a game that's not going to be out for another generation of graphic cards is just stupid.

Don't belive the hype!

hahaha, and we have to spend how much on this?

Wow. If a 7800 (AND it's gtx!) struggles in UE3, what on earth WILL run the game(s)?

Eh, I wouldn't really consider it struggling, its doing a good job. Struggling would be like 28ish or somthing :p.

Yeah, but I don't consider 48 to be a very good score. Especially for such a new card, with such power, and for such money.

Although it'll probably be the same price as a 6800u by the time UE3 is out.

and we don't know how optimised the U3 engine is yet, as it's not being relased for a fair while it's a good bet to say it's got a bit of optimisation left to go.

Unreal 3 is supposed to be multi-threaded and 64-bit, it would also run smoother if you had a dual core. Crossfire does have better performance than sli, but nvidia will probably add ati's sli methods to their own. Get a 7800gt or something like that when it comes out.

*Cough*Patent*Cough* it's why ATi don't use SLI.

btw the way U3 is still in dev and there are plenty of optimizations left to code in.

On a side note multi-threading doesn't work in all cases. If thread "b" has to wait for thread "a" to finish it will be slower due to thread overheads.

I said DUAL CORE, let me spell it out, D-U-A-L C-O-R-E.

EDIT: nvidia is also making multi-threaded drivers.
