Will CS:S spoil the Source engine?

I am seriously considering buying the Silver package from Steam next week and play CS:S to curb my hunger for HL2, but I was wondering: for those who have played it, does it ruin the initial effect of the Source engine? If I play CS:S and then HL2 will I be less impressed? Those who went to Valve HQ/played the beta could help answer. :D

I want to keep it a relatively new experience for myself, but I don't think I can wait any longer.

Any thoughts?

yes and no ... i would just wait though to be honest ;)

You won't be less impressed, they use the engine in different ways, from the reviews ive seen and my own playing of cs:source the use of the engine is much more impressive in half-life2. cs:source is the same old textures just slightly improved and same old maps. So it won't impress you as much.

CS:S uses the source engine to the lowest extent from what i've heard

Err.. haven't you played a game with physics?

:dozey: I don't think CS:S will use the Source engine's physics to the fullest extent. Well, nevermind that... if there are new or remodeled maps, it's possible that the guys at Valve might have made everything more interactive and stuff.

They could of spent time developing an excellent squad based combat in the HL2 world, but instead took their brains out of their heads and remade CS.
So in that respect, yes it does

It won't ruin anything... I don't speak from experience... I just know...

Would I be right in saying whereas you 'bounce' off objects in CS:S (like barrels), in HL2 you wouldn't?

CS:S wasn't very impressive in my opinion. So hopefully not.

Play Halflife2 first, i dont know why, but i think it will ruin it a bit, take the edge of the 'wow' factor

I reckon people who have played the stolen build, then played CS:S beta and then play CS:S 1.0 and then play HL2 will all have very different experiences.

Sure, you'll know each one is the same engine, but each one will give you a different experience.

Errr, what? Bouncing off barrels? :| That sounds like shit... like you run into them and you bounce off? I was under the impression the physics in multiplayer were actually supposed to be... good? :O

You get 'pushed' back a foot or so, it's really annoying when you're running and you turn a corner and hit a barrel.. you lose all your speed..

It's so you don't get stuck in objects by some quirk of physics during an online game...or so I've been told

yes the physics aspect in cs:s is much reduced. You bounce of objects and cant stand on barrels. I guess this is due to online limitations.

Yes, I've played games with physics, so that won't be new to me.

Thanks for your opinions guys, you've helped with my decision.

Btw, what are hl2.net's ips going to be?

NONono....Don't worry about it ruining the gameplay. If you look at porn, will it ruin sex? NO. Sorry only analogy I could think of. Most if not all the weapons in HL2 are not in cs source. Neither are the bad guys. CS Source is the same as cs 1.6 except the ragdoll effects of the bodies, the interaction of the barrels and other little objects and the graphics........Just 1.6 updated a little. HL2 on the otherhand is more of an open ended game where you can play the same level but play it 30 different ways and interact with the environment kind of like grand theft auto. I have been playing cs source since it came out for beta and I am still impressed with the way a body will fall to its death or slide against the wall, the way bullets bounce off weapons and save your life, the way the helmets spark when you shoot them. If anything , css will give you a tiny idea of what hl2 might even posses and make you want it even more.......So get the package you want to so that you can play cs. Hell you have waited this long allready.....Why have you not bought cz to play css is the question....

It won't ruin a thing. CS:S is CS with the ability to shoot barrels, wheels and cans to distract opponents. Half - Life 2 is something never seen before.

cs source is cs with pretty textures, funky shooting style (that I have yet to master) and a toned down physics system.

I think its great apart from the barrels and shit shoot u backward >_< .. but I'm sure that can be changed later and I'm sure something will happen to the pushy awayness of objects, I expect new maps to be bunches better than the old ones revamped :)
