I read about CS:S (and DoD:S and HL:S) on lots of site but none of them is clear on one very important point. Will these conversion to the source engine be free for download or will we have to pay for them.

Has anything been confirmed about this?

It will be like CS for HL.

Anyone with HL2 can just download it for free. ppl without HL2 can also buy it.

So if I buy HL2 (which I am going to do) I will get those Source conversions for free? That would be very great!

Thanks for the answer.

It's like the original HL, you can buy DoD, CS in retail, but if you have HL you can get them all thru Steam.

What's cool is that for Steam right now you don't even have to put in the cd to install anything, you just sign in and double-click what games to install, I find this VERY VERY useful and helpful, I hope they implement this with HL2, although that would be one hefty download.

I think they will essentially be mod's for hl2.

So they will be exactly like cs is now.

Free for the HL2 consumer but able to be purchaced seprately.

Counter-Strike Source (info - news) will be playable this weekend... if you're in Seoul, South Korea. In an interview with Driverheaven.net, Doug Lombardi announced that CS Source's first playable exhibition will be held in the technologically advanced country. Here's a tidbit or two from the interview:
How is development progressing on Counter Strike: Source?

[Doug Lombardi] Great. We're holding the first playable exhibition of it this weekend in Seoul, Korea.

Will Counter-Strike: Source be a stand alone retail game, or HL2 mod that can be purchased or downloaded, like the original Counter-Strike?

[Doug Lombardi] It's likely to be sold in a variety of ways. We will be releasing more specific info a bit closer to launch. (CSN note: Valve has said CS Source will be free for HL2 owners)"
