Will HL2 run ok on my PC?

Help! I want to buy HL2 right now however I can't if it turns out my PC won't handle it and I cant return it to the shop

Basically my spec is this:

- Athlon XP 3000
- 1 gig of ram
- Geforce 4 ti4200

Its the graphics card bit i'm worried about.

Is HL2 more graphically demanding than Doom 3 and/or Deus Ex 2? Doom3 ran ok if I kept it to 640x480, but Deus Ex was mostly a bit of a dog. Due to the long view distances in HL2 I would like to have it running in at least 800x600 - will my machine handle it?

it should run it okay, IF you do not get it through steam, which would leave you a good chance it will not work at all.

Yes it will, I have a friend with P4 2400 mhz, 256 MB ram and the same graphics card as you, it runs okey with everything on low and some things on medium at 1024*768. In Direct X 8.1, of course.

I have p4 2.6 and 512 ram and Ti 4800SE (AGP8x 4400)

and it runs not bad ....

any way I'm going to upgrade the cpu and ram to A64 3500+ and 1 gb ddr400...(coming home in few days)

I don't think I would need to upgrade my VGA yet...It will preform much better with the new system.

it setup by default with all high settings except for simple water. i don't run aa & af and i have zero problems. it runs great.
