I have my P4 2.4C overclocked to 3.0Ghz and im running prime 95 and everything is going fine the temp is at 38C. The temp idles around 28C. Im wondering if i keep thsi thing overclocked by how much will it shorten the life of my cpu? I did not change the voltage its at 1.525V

Thanks in advance!

Run Prime 95 for 10-12 hours and see if you have any errors or if you tempertures get to high.

Your temps are sweet, don't worry about it until it's at 55+ degrees celcius.

if it's as stable at 3 as it is at 2.4 there's nothing to worry about. The life expectancy of a CPU is liek 10 years plus. For the most part, all the manufacturors (fock, I can't spell it right :flame:) do is pick the CPU's that run the fastest and sell 'em as fast chips, and sell the rest cheaper to appeal to value-price buyers. In most cases they're the same hardware by design, and in some cases, the lower-clocked chips are just as capable of fast clock speeds. only the limited multipliers and other such hinderances are holding them from performance equal to higher priced chips...

so, if your chip is stable during a long burn-in, then all's good, mate. temperatures would only be dangerous above 50C (say, 140F or so). Likely you'd see stability problems at those kind of temps also, if you're running near the chips limit. The only threat is to your warrenty, really.

After i overclocked i used a porgram called CPU-Z and it says my memory is running at 164.7mhz instead of 200mhz like it was before i overclocked, do i need to overclock my memory also?

FSB : DRAM 3:2 (Before it was at 1:1)
