Sorry I don't exactly know where to post this but I was just wondering whether the HDR in Lost Coast will be deactivatable. I heard Aftermaths will be but I haven't heard any info about the lost coast. I'm curious because there is no way my comp could run HDR smoothly;( .

HDR is not very stressing on the PC.

The high res textures, high poly models, and super duper shaders are, though.

So to answer your question...yes, it is probably toggable, but it won't help your PC run Lost Coast any better.

Ok thanks I was under the impression HDR is super demanding.

what video card do u have colson because u need at least a card with ps2.0

"We talked with one of the Valve reps giving the presentation, and he said that although Lost Coast would require a pretty high-end system (3.2GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 6800GT or X800 Pro, et cetera), the Aftermath expansion pack would allow the player to disable HDR and tweak the visuals as usual."

;(
Looks bad for my 9800Pro... But I hope, that we could disable HDR per "cfg" tweaks or so.

Maybe SM2.X

shader model and pixel shader are the same thing and i said at least 2.0

In the E3 videos they had side by side comparisons between a regular version to a HDR version, so there just might be an option to turn it off. After all there are minimum requirements listed.

Have to agree with you there. If they can turn off HDR in the demo, there isn't any real reason you shouldn't be able to ingame.

Should be at least 2.0, x800 series has 2.0b(Very much like 3.0 but no OpenEX(somtin like dat) HDR that farcry uses)

I got a GeForce FX 5200 :( . Theres no chance for me. Not enough ram either as well as only having 1.8ghz. cpu.

No, Shader Moder is pixel shader and vertex shader. SM2.extended (=2.X -> ps2.a or ps2.b + VS2.0) belongs to SM2.0, but eg my 9800Pro cannot handle it.

The whole point of Lost Coast is to show off HDR - you shouldn't be able to turn it off, and if you can, what's the point?

To run a new level?

You will be able to switch HDR off. People with high end systems will see it in all its glory, they wouldnt release it just for these people knowing not everyone has a powerful pc. That would be cruel.

Id really like to play Lost Coast, just to get some new content... the awesome graphics are not really that important. But I think my already overheating 9600XT is not up to the job :\

So is everyone ready for the LOST COAST tomorrow night? they said about 2weeks, 2 weeks ago. They surely cant keep it any longer.

But remember the valve factor.

2 weeks is about 6-12 months.

Yes i know only to well, but this was coming out months ago. i am confident its tomorrow night.

ive no read too much into lost coast, but i have 2 questions:

1.Do we have a release date for it, or estimations from valve about what month etc

2.Will my PC run it ok at 1024*768, i would hope so but who knows.

your pc sounds fine. Its suppose to be out tomorrow night, maybe. Im curious, will the lost coast level slot in between the existing hl2 levels? hdr or not, that would be nice. probabualy just played straight from the steam games menu.

I have an Athlon XP 1800+, Radeon 9550 and 512MB ram and I am going to try it at full whack.

I'm not expecting my computer to survive, it'll be an interesting experience though.

Why bother to run on full whack when you know your pc wont handle it?

Yeah, I have to agree with Jocky68 - you might trash your PC and frown a lot afterwards! :naughty:

Did we every get any word on any form of HDR being added to the normal HL2 levels?

They said no didn't they? The size of the download to do so would be unpractical (probably in the order of 1.5-3 gigs or something).
Ev!l P!e, if you cant run this im f*cked too.

They said yes actually. But not to every part of HL2 because they felt it would not add to various sections. Plus the file size would be hooge.

Lost Coast is a very highend tech demo, showing off Source. Low end users will not be able to play it, simple as that. The level is not in any way enjoyable without the proper equipment, so don't even bother downloading it if you don't have a 6800gt / x800 level cards.

No point in saying that, everyone will download and try to play it regardless of what pc specs they have. im sure as i said before HDR will be optional.

it should be optional because HDR will be in DOD:S, and that's GOTTA be optional for gameplay's sake.

So once again we wait with baited breath for a release. Tonight...........

tonight, toooooooonnnnniiiigggggghhhhht.
Pfftt- yeh right haha

R520 isn't out yet....

Looks like mid-Sept at this point.

Should be optional in DoD:s, it will be optional in aftermath.
