Let me pre-emptively apoligise for such a newbie question, but before spending fifty bucks on a game, I like to know wether I could run it or not (still feel burned over farcry) My computer is a Celeron 2.4 with 512 mb of 133 ram and a Geforce 5600 256mb card. Will I be able to run HL2? When I say run, I mean with a decent resolution (1024x768) and a decent framerate (35) anything less than that and I find I just don't enjoy the game.

At this point, Lurconis, judging from what I've read here and in other HL2 forums, I wouldn't guarantee ANYTHING dealing with HL2.

I didn't expect to have any problems running it on my computer.

I have friends who didn't have any problems at all and have finished the game at least once!

I'd say your 133Mhz ram is your bottleneck, the celeron isn't helping you either.

meh

I have a AMD Athalon 1.0 Ghz processer with 512 of RAM, and a GeForece FX 5200. And it runs just fine, with an adverage frame rate of 40.

probably

You'll be able to run it. Guarantees on framerate and resolution are impossible, though. I've got an XP 2100+, 1gig of PC2700, and a 9800 Pro 128. It runs pretty smooth on mine. I've got the shaders on low, water on reflect world, textures on high and character detail on medium, 1024x768. I haven't checked my framerate, but it is quite playable.

I'd guess you'd be able to play at a decent framerate if you just drop a few detail settings. The game still looks fantastic.

Ok, I got it, and it works pretty darn well in 1024x768 all details on medium. Damn awesome game. Incidentally, I highly reccomend defragging after you install it - steam leaves crap spread out all over your system, and a good defrag will decreas loading times quite substantially
