Will the shops sell out of HL2?

Will a copy off half-life2 be as rare as rocking-horse sh*t?

  • Nah, the planets manufacturing might will be entirely devoted to churning out half-life2 packages. t

Am i going to have to wait for weeks on end AFTER the game is released just to find somewhere that has a copy?

Am i going to get the old 'there might be some more coming in thursday' line from my local game shop for weeks on end?

:afro: (sorry, i love this guy)

Depends where you buy it.

Where I live I rarely see PC games sell out, but ya never know.... Thats why I'm using Steam to download the game :)

2 remidies to that problem:
1.Buy (as said before) thru steam
2.Pre-order it at your local shop or on website( personally if ur in the UK i would pre-order it from amazon.co.uk its ony £24.99! pre release price :) )

Nope, theres plenty of stores. Some will go out of stock, others wont. You should pre-order your copy from the store. Thats what i did, so im gettin it either way.

Has anyone ever got a "sorry we're sold out" when trying to buy a new game?

Don't know about you guys,
But the stores normally have more then enough copies for the demand. Those that simply MUST have the game ASAP would order it, like me :)

I did that last years august.

No, but I got one "We're sold out, butwe'll get in more next week." (on swedish).

i used to work in GAME and we would sell out of games reasonably often. it was mainly console games (gran turismo, pro evo, ffx, etc) but occasionally a pc game would dry up too (gta3 was one, i seem to remember).

i would pre-order but i'm scared. i wan't the best 'edition' i can buy, so i'm a bit worried about not knowing what i'm putting my name down for. at a shop it probably doesn't matter, but i doubt amazon.co.uk are going to be ringing me up to ask what version it was that i wanted.

No.

this game is not the second coming and will not sell out.

some stupid stores who only have 10 copies will sell out but real stores will not.

Some stores will sell em out but only the small ones i think.

I don't think so. People thought that Final Fantasy X2 would sell out, but for high demand games, they usually order in more than enough copies.

I reckon its bound to sell out within the first few hours in some places. It will be like the opening to a major film, people will que overnight and the ques will be huge.

Pre-ordering from Amazon for me. :)

i wouldnt mind going to the store a few before it opens just to get the first copy. but i really dont think they will really sell out so quick.

yeah, i agree with that.

here in Toronto, games tend to sell out quick...especially big titles.. so around here, if u want a guaranteed copy its best to pre-order :)

I cancelled my pre-order last year around christmas so I would have more money to spend towards games for the PS2 I got as a gift, so either I'm going to go back to EB Games and preorder again, or I'll arrive at an EB Games or a similar store right at opening time on the day HL2 is released to hopefully guarantee a copy. Otherwise, I can always unlock the preloaded copy off of Steam, it's just that I would rather have a real copy of the game.

I think in major well-known stores it will sellout. But on the whole it wont.

I'm not pre ordering it anywhere, when it comes out i will go to the store to get it. If they do not have any copies, i will simply order it on steam. In my opinion there is no way i can go wrong here.

They won't run out since I think most people will get it over steam.

the only store in sarasota, florida that seems to get games in on time is Gamestop

when Farcry hit shelves i managed to get the last copy in sarasota for that week about 1 or 2 hours since hitting the shelves

the same thing with Battlefield Vietnam, grabbed the last copy

and that is what will probably happen with HL2, i will grab the last one available in all of sarasota

In sarasota the only places to buy games are
A. Gamestop
B. Best Buy
C. Walmart
D. Super Walmart

Gamestop is the only place to get the games when they release, otherwise you'll have to wait 2 weeks before the mega stores ever get it.

Yeah shops will probably sell out the first couple of weeks but they'll be resupplied quickly most likely.

I guess they'll put out a limited supply in the start to get out as fast as possible and then follow up.

The first cases might even not be made entirely to spec.(Rotaing boximages and stuff)

I hope it doesn't run out at stores because that's where I'm planning on getting it. I would like to pre order the game but I'm not going to until I Know exactly what it is I'm putting money down for (as far as content, special edition versions etc...) Once that is all planned out and coordinated with distributors I'd pre-order the special edition or whatever its going to be called.

If you think anyone is actually going to camp outside the stores for this game you are deluded. It's only game.

i live in miami and i never seen a game sold out here, plus not a lot of mainstream people know about hl2.

am just hoping that hl2 dose not get sold out, but am not buying the game at wal-mart, since people SAY that they will only have the single player only vers.

I will get it at:
1. future shop
2. video game trade ( a small shop I know here in calgary )
3. any other small computer shop.

I can't go wrong! :D

Quoted for emphasis.....

EB Games is where im getting my HL@

Well, im getting my copy of the game from EBgames. :borg:

Steam, all the way. I don't mind not having a book/box. Besides, it will probably come with a .pdf version of the book anyway, and that's enough for me.

If they preload it weeks before it comes out, i think steam could handle it. of course the first few days of preloading will be extremely crashy/slow, but after the bulk of people have DL/ed it i'll start getting it.

How many content servers do you think VALVe will have for when HL2 is released?

Yeah i mean i wont camp outside the store or not sleep the night before...

but i will get up and head into town right in time for the store to open, not becuase it will sell out but becuase i want to play all day for as long as i can.

I think they will have plenty.

Valve mentioned something about having lots of backups in place to handle the load.

i will pre order once it goes gold or like 2 days after it goes Gold, that way i can pre order which edition i want and still get the warm glow of knowing i shall have it.

Though it would be just like them to *#$@ the whole thing up.

We only get 5 copie sof each game around here, so yeah, I pre-ordered

I would hate to be Valve if the Steam authentication server/s go down and people aren't able to play HL2.

I'm buying my copy from the ol brick-n-mortar stores. Because Steam will be taking the load off retailers I can't imagine not being able to find a copy of HL2 in the stores, unless it's some retarded Nintendo-like marketing ploy to create a 'frenzy'.
