Will they really do it?

It's from June 2006, I'm affraid it can be only old joke on TF2 release. If they will do it...Aleph, GO!

Gabe also promised something else should TF2 release. :shh:
Curse you Samon. Because of you I'm going to have to search the entire bloody internet to find out what he promised!

If they do Prospero, it might tie into the Half-Life universe. Because Breen already...

well, I'm really not at liberty to say.

Heh. Just last night I was trying to scrounge up as much information as I could on Prospero. Considering how both Prospero and HL were being developed in tandem, it would be cool if they could tie them together canonically. But then I still know scant little about what it was supposed to be about.

Aleph universe...

Yeah, what is it? A google search just says "sci-fi fantasy epic", can anyone shed light on this? I'm assuming it was canceled or something.

When Valve formed, they were going to do two games: Quiver (which became Half-Life) and Prospero. Prospero was an adventure game where you had to unravel the storyline, similar to Myst. The protagonist was a female named Aleph, called the Librarian, and she had some kind of psychic powers if I'm not mistaken.

Valve wanted to do this big sweeping thing with it by creating worlds housed on different servers; as the Librarian, the Library would actually be a hub where you could join these servers and explore more of the world. Some ideas from that became Steam.

When I joined Valve, in July of 1997, I was supposed to do a couple weeks of work to consolidate the storyline for Half-Life so that it could ship that year, while the bulk of my time was devoted to a science fantasy epic called Prospero. Half-Life proved to be an irresistible force; the Prospero team was soon absorbed...
Absorbed indeed.

Psionic powers, according to RTB. I think it had to do with that helmet/goggle thing she had on.

I don't think I would like psychic powers in my HL saga...

Gordon Freeman making peoples heads blow up just by looking at them would be epic..

I am kinda new to the forum but what is this purposed prospero game?

Yeah he also posted this in the Info from Valve Only thread.

It has to be a joke regarding the release date of TF2!

But still, Prospero being made and released would be great - especially if they tied it into the HL universe!

Does Prospero have puzzles and stuff, that require ALOT of thinking and stuff.

Physics based?

Not only would that concept by dry and cliche, but if it were to be anything like that brief moment in Resident Evil 2 (the movie), then I wish for it to never give birth and to die. Why? I understand that this has nothing to do with Resident Evil, but the same concept was appied to the movie, and I found it quite half-ass in my opinion, and would make a game quite easy and boring quickly, unless their was a disadvantage to doing so.

You know, I don't think it counts as a cliche. I certainly can't think of a movie where somebody's head explicitly blows up via mind powers. It'd be awesome.
