According to sys. requirements this will be fine, but will it run HL2 in a fairly high setting without too much lag? Thanks.

Sorry to say, but HL2 won't run with a Black floppy drive. J/k.

Seriously, your system should be fine. :)

no it wont...its gonna run so bad with that comp you might as well not even bother. You probably wotn get more than 8 fps at low settings at lowest res.

if you could not tell he was being sarcastic then you should get out more

OMG I HAVE A DUAL PENTIUM 7 PROCESSORS AT 20,000 GHZ EACH AND A RADEON 500000 PRO AND 20 GB OF RAM!! OMG IM SO SCARED IT WONT RUN! MUST EMAIL GABE!

why dont you just look in the valve only thread? ...instead of posting a new topic..just curious... it would make the world such a better place :)

Btw the minimum for HL2 is 700 mhz with some shittay GFX card..and reccomended is 1.7 Ghz as far as i remember..and 9600 me thinks...

Yeah, I knew what the system requirements were but usually games have low requirements annd they run horribly with even higher system specs, so I just wanted to be sure it would run without a bunch of lag.. from the videos I have seen this game looks crazy so I wasn't sure.

Yes, between both cards my system supports 4 monitors but I will just be using 2 of my Trinitron's because that is all I have.

I hope HL2 is really released on Sept. 30 I can't wait for this game.

Your system will be able to run it at max around 25-30 fps. turn something off, and you're up to 40-45.

That post makes baby jesus cry. You don't need two graphics cards to run dual monitors. You just need a graphics card that supports dual monitors. The 9600 pro will do fine.

I know, between both my video cards I can support up to 4 monitors. The reason I got 2 video cards is so performance will not be sacrificed while I have two monitors operating, as the second monitor will only utilize the second video card.

Correct me if I am wrong, but won't 30-40 FPS be pretty laggy? I read this and it made my cry:

Storm: We know the minimum suggested speed is 700 mhz, What are the recommended system requirements?

Gabe Newell: If you want everything turned on, running 32-bit 1280x1024? Hmm. I'd think you would run about 40 FPS with a 9700 Pro and a P-IV 2 GHz.

Given the scalability of many different parts of the system, you have to add a quality dimension and target frame rate.

Or perhaps I will be able to turn off a few settings and boost my FPS? What settings could I change that would not really effect the game much but would really improve FPS, and would it be worthwhile to tweak thesee settings, or would doing so extremely sacrifice visuals? Thanks for any advice / answers.

well considering NONE OF US HAVE PLAYED HL2 YET, we dotn really know. Though its been said that unlike all other games where the settings look the same on all cards with different fps, hl2 will look different depending on your video card. This dosnt mean it will look different with a 9700 and a 9800....but more likely means different between older/newer cards.

By different, do you mean they will make it look horrible on certain cards, if you want good FPS? Like removing shadows, using lower res textures, etc? If so, then how extreme will the difference be between newer cards?

omfg......we DONT know. Valve or gabe or who ever just said it will look different....that probably means that if you turn on max settings with a tnt2 it would not only get less fps then, but also look different then a 9700pro per say.

Unlike other games where the high, medium, low settings always look the same, just different speeds.

:) heh, just kidding!

I was just concerned that HL2 might run crappy on my system, and I wanted it to run well on my system... but I guess I will just wait and see.

its equaly good as the system where they made the demo's on (the movies) and those ran on medium settings with some fireworks on...at 40_50 fps...so su

ur system will do really fine, i advise you to make room on ur HD and put all the HL2 files on it, so nothing runs from ur cd drive, ur really gonna have fast loads with that HD and ram memory

search for minimum requirements yourself...then you will know the exact same thing we know, so don't ask it...
