will this card play half-life 2 on high settings?

yes, it will run it on high settings IF you have a good CPU and a good amount of RAM (>2.6G CPU, 1024M RAM).

The amount of memory the grahpics card has does not really matter (128 VS 256M MB or Mega Byte) but how wide the memory bus is does (128 VS 256 Bit). This they don't always tell you but you can generally tell by the price. The 9800Pro cards with 128MB and 256Bit are generally closer to 200$ while the cards with 128MB and 128Bit are more likely to be 150$.

The 128Bit cards perform closer to a 9500 Pro than the 9800's with 256Bit memory bus.

You can see here that the regular 9800Pro 128MB (256Bit) hits 50 FPS while the 9800 128MB (128Bit) is down around 34 FPS close to the 9600XT.

okay for all those people out their.. i have a 9800 pro 128mg. 2.8 ghz wit hyperthreading, and 1 gig of ddr ram. half-life 2, runs extremly well with all the settings on high. i have the refelections on reflect world... aa at 2x. it looks stunning. no lag.. only when enterting a new area.

You can overclock the CRAP out of it, ive got it beyond 9800 xt Clock settings right now.. heh
