Will X800 Pro be enough for High Dynamic Range Lighting Update?

I have a non-VIVO X800 Pro and I am wondering whether it will be enough for the new high dynamic range lighting being added to the source engine? Will I be able to run it decently, or will I need a 6800 GT or higher to do it? I've heard this is being made to only run on extreme machines, which is why I am wondering. Thanks for any replies....

dude... a 9600xt will be enough for HDR. u have nothing to worry about.

Well, I just read that HDR will only run on GeForce 6 series cards and the R520 when it comes out. This sooo pisses me off. I wasted $400 on this sh*t card that not only sucks in Doom 3, but will not support HDR. SHAME ON YOU ATI!

I dont know why people ask these questions..
Not to "flame" or anything, but..
i think they just want to show off or something... of cource a x800 pro will run hdr... what do you think they came out with the a new special card? just for HDR? umm i dont think so..

But HDR kills CPU's so i suggest yuo worry less about your graphics card and more about your cpu...

Matter of fact ATI is releasing a card for HDR...Its called the R520. No current ATI card will run it or so I hear.

Here , where the post should be..
Yes, you posted there, but look at the last post.....

True, also the current HDR videos and screenshots we've seen were actually produced on the ATI R420 core anyway. It's pretty solid evidence that it will run on the X800s.

it's not like HDR is a hardware implemented technology! it's all about the software, so as long as you have some DX9 card, it will work.

And IMO this question is ridiculous. If X800's can't run HDR, then who is Valve gonna release the Lost Coast to? 0.3% of HL2 players who've gotten the R520 the day it came out?

Hahaha.

Very good point : p

I think most of these posts are about the HDR implimintations that have already been done. Nvidia cards with PS 3.0 are the only cards that are capable of running most HDR or other advanced graphics such as the cronicles of riddick (soft shadowing no HDR), splinter cell: chaos theory HDr or far cry HDR. ATI cards cannot run these games with HDR because of the implimentation not the hardware power. This is because of "official specs" from microsoft. This is like geometry instancing ati supports it but not "officially." However after all the valve/ati relations they will not alienate all the ATI users. Besides look at the hardware survey and all the 9800/9600 users.

For some reason, I think this post might have been a sarcastic joke. :)

Will HDR run on an nVidia GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 PCI-Express GFX Card?

ffs, even my card runs HDR half decently. ATI cards not running HDR is the biggest load of BULLSHIT I've ever heard.

There's a demo out there that runs HDR.

I believe you're talking about this:
http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/

If you haven't checked it out, please do. This is awesome. I don't think that HL2's HDR is going to be quite this intensive (judging from my mediochre fullscreen framerate on a 6800GT and the fact that there's only one mesh in the scene), but this'll give you an idea about the effect if you're curious.

Would the "X850XT PCi-E" be better than the "nVidia GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 PCI-Express" in terms of HDR etc?

As far as HL2's HDR, I sincerely doubt any benchmarks comparing the two have been posted. You'll be smokin' either way, of course!

In the PCGamer UK two page article on the Lost Coast they said that the MINIMUM specs to run the Lost Coast level is 3.2GHz P4 or AMD equivalent, 1 gig RAM, top of the line graphics card.... And by top of the line that is like x800 and 6800 cards.

Fairly intense if you ask me. Luckily I meet the specs.

Check the article out for yourself if you don't believe me... Remember, this is for the users who always update their comp with the latest technology, TRUE top-end computers... Not those who update once every two years... This is for those who really want to push the boundaries. They are having everything, from textures, to models, and obviously to lighting enhanced greatly...

TBH, I doubt a 9600XT could run it... Those are mid-range cards now. Yes, it sucks that every 6 months that a card goes down from High-End to Mid-Range.

Any word on when all this stuff is gonna be released, anyway?

Sorry but if Doom 3 sucks with your X800 Pro, you must not have anything to back that gfx card up, IE. bottlenecking. I run 1024x768 on Doom 3 at about constant 60fps on high quality. I don't know what your computer is smoking but mine works fine.

even a GeForce 5200 and a Radeon 9200 can do HDR just not as good as the betta ones

Well, I like to use at least 2x AA, which highly drops my framerate in Doom 3.

Here is my system:
Athlon 64 3200+
1GB PC3200 Kingston HyperX
Asus K8V Deluxe mobo with VIA chipset
Radeon X800Pro non-VIVO

i tried out that HDR text and it runs smooth s on my computer, even with 16 multisamples. i have a Radeon 9800XT, AMD Athlon 64bit 3000+.
does this mean the Coast levels will play fine on my computer?

i was just curious why that guy quoted the url to that HDr test, and if it had anything to do with the performance my computer would have with the coast levels.

well, on that HDR test what do you get? A ball? A skull? What do you get in HL2 maps? HL2 maps with extra detail?

No matter what anyone says...no one actually knows what spec you need, it's that simple

I would HOPE that Valve would put something out that could run on more than 2% of the machines of people who have HL2, or worse, doesn't even run well on today's top-tier hardware. In other words, don't buy anything till you see how it runs. I'm confident that my 6800 GT won't choke on it. Likewise or even moreso, you should feel confident in your 9800XT.
