Since all the next generations of consoles output in High Definition (HDTV) it would be a crime to plug them into any non-high-definition TV ... but so many people are going to buy a console anyway.

I wouldn't insult myself or the developers by plugging a next-gen console into a standard tv.

No way man! That is unless i happen to come into some money between now and their release. I have a nice TV already.

Give me the money for an hdtv, and I'll get one. Other than that, no I won't be getting one anytime soon, unless my current one dies, and ask my parent's for a new one :x

I'm looking forward to all that XBox 360 and PS3 high-definition goodness on my Sharp 26" widescreen LCD HDTV!!!

Not to mention Sky's new HDTV service released in 2006!!

Already got a pretty good definition TFT, i'd rather spend the money upgrading my Pc than on a telly/console. PC > Consoles... everyone knows that.

Don't like consoles, and don't like TV. So short answer: no. :)

I have a 37" Plasma in the living room, but I would prefer to play it on the "normal" TV, in my room.

Yes, I am going to fork out for a HDTV.

......I need at least £3000

I don't care if it's "high definition" :P it's going into an old crappy tv

I'll be sticking with my old tv for while. HDTV is great, but to get one of a similar size will cost a ridiculous amount.

Great big tv > medium sized HDTV :) (of course, a massive HDTV would be lovely)

Most likely. I mean, what's Xbox 360 without HD?

Already got HDTV compatible projector. I think my 100 in. screen will be enough. :P

I currently have finally saved up enough money (over the past year or so) to buy a 52" widescreen HD-ILA HDTV, which I never thought I'd be able to get. I've had a 20" regular tube TV for the past six years, and the picture's been fading. Needless to say, this'll be a big :O'in improvement!

how can you have a console with HD output? is that a joke? I mean their resolutions are so low and the textures are detail-less ... and now they move on to HDTV? Muahaha, good joke.

wilka, we're talking about next generation consoles capable of much higher resolution gaming.

Hmmmmm, I don't understand. How can I find out if my TV is High Definiation or not?

If I don't have one I will buy one. I have 500pound spare atm and I get payed again soon :D WwowowowowW waste some money :P

As risk of stating the obvious, check the manual ;) It should state HDTV or High Definition ready.

Failing that, check the inputs on the back of your TV. HDTV's will have either a DVI or HDMI input, or both (although this may also need to be HDCP compliant).

There are very few HDTV's available in the UK atm since we don't yet have a High Definition TV broadcast ('til next year when SKy start theirs). Your best bet would be to look towards LCDTV's and Plasma TV's. I can highly recommend the Sharp Aquos LCD TV's

Does anyone here REALLY know a lot about HDTV and what it does? I don't, but I was always under the assumption all it did was basicly take the TV into 1024 resolution as opposed to 640 (or 800?).

And I thought consoles (or maybe just Xbox, I can't remember), played at 1024 to begin with.

Or maybe it is CAPABLE of doing so...

Now, again, I don't claim to know a lot about HD, it's just...when I heard all of this next generation consoles using HD, I was a little skeptic about how much better it would actually look.

Ok, so, if anyone who knows anything can prove me wrong/right it would be awesome.

No, consoles play by default at 480i (interlaced)... which I believe is the equivalent of 640*480. On the Xbox, many games have the option to play at 480p (progressive) on HDTVs, which makes the game a little sharper and quite a lot smoother, while a few other games could go as high as 720p or even 1080i. Microsoft wants the Xbox 360 to run games on HDTV at 720p (I think) and with AA by default.

Of course, they disabled all of these options on UK Xboxes for some stupid reason, so those who wanted to enjoy all that here had to mod theirs. MS had better enable that support here for the Xbox 360.
