I don't know why this, but in most extremely good, revolutionary FPS's, you lose all of your weapons halfway through the game.

Why is that? Its almost like a tradition in the business to screw the player halfway through the game (HL1 gave most of your guns back righr away but what about Marathon 2? When you had to combat 9 ft. tall armored warriors with a handgun.).

Do you think HL2 will have this?

No this time you'll lose everything, and run nekkid through city 17, flashing combines to death :D

Yep. I think it's a way of extending the gameplay. I mean if you have all the weapons by the midpoint of the game it means you would have to put super-hardcore monsters everywhere or it would be too easy. Loosing the weapons lets you start over again.

Well if you did lose all your weapons, surely it would be in the event of a scripted sequence which would be quite annoying since you would have no control over it. Remember in HL1, wasn't it quite annoying when you walked into the room and everything went black because you were hit over the head? It didn't allow you take part in the situation whatsoever, it just... happened. If you do lose all your weapons, I hope it will be in a situation which you have control over but where you lose your stuff, I have no idea how that would work but hopefully Valve do  .

Scripted sequences arent that bad. If you have that short of an attention span and that little of an imagination HL probably isnt the game for you.

that sequence makes you pissed...you get a rush of blood to the head, its great imo...especially the scene after it :)

I voted who gives a shit, heh.

Although it is a good idea, but... who cares

Getting bumped back to the older weapons gives you a chance to exercise some of the skill you worked up while playing through.

Too true, too true. I voted "Yes!", not because I want it, but because it just will be there. :D

you'd like that wouldt you? :cheese:

Actually I'd prefer if you have a certain amount of inventory slots, and the weapons use different amounts of slots. Kinda RPG style, so you have to chose with what weapons you want to progress.

Gabe said it wouldn't be this way though, because its not as fun, and I agree with him.

In MGS2 you lose all your weapons and run around naked kicking soldier butt with your hands over your crotch lol.

But that's not until the very end of the game. In HL you lost your weapons about halfway through.

That's not really true .... it happens in a fair few games tho.

I'm getting sick of FPS were the weapons get better as you go through the game (making the early ones redundant). The best shooters (imo of course) are the ones that give you various weapons and tools that are each good for certain situations - and it's up to you to decide which to use.

It was fine for Doom and HL - but times change, and gamers want more from their games.

(carrying 10 different guns sux too)

I like how in Quake you get like every weapon in the first couple levels.
