I have 2 HDD. one with XP home edition, and 1 with windows 2000 Pro. The problem is on the windows 2000 hdd. For some reason the OS will NOTrun my nvidia 6800 on 8x.

Plz look at the photo I attachted for a better idea on what I'm talking about. hardware wise, everything is fine. The card reads as an AGP 8x card. but for some reason the OS lists it as 2x, and thats putting a dent in performance on my games.:rolling:

I'm going to re install my drivers. see if that works or something

Make sure that the drivers your using are meant for both XP and 2000 or just 2000 alone.

yep, downloaded the newest forceware drivers from nvidia for windows XP/2000. I mean XP shares the same core files that 2000 uses. so I cant imagin what the problem is.

edit, re installing drivers did not work :(

i dont quite understand why you have 2000 and xp i mean there both so similar so why have both???

I booted to my XP HDD, and checked out the the nvidia display settings. The settings also list the OS as being 2x. So, that's how its supposed to be, since XP is smooth as silk i guess.

Anyways, I have the win2k hdd is fixed. re-installing the drivers did fix the performance in my games. I have a nice steady 70 fps in dods :) I get better frames on the 2000 than XP as a matter of fact. Xp is a resource hog, and yes, that's why I still use my windows 2000 pro as my primary OS.

btw did you ever think that your motherboard could only support up to 2x agp speed.

Dude, just because someone says they have windows 2000 doesnt mean their computer is crap. I built my rig back in 04. Just I still use 2000 pro over XP

but yeah, of course my asus board supports agp8x

Get into your BIOS and set your AGP port to 8X and you must boot both OSs on the same HDD but partitioned.

Good Luck.
