I just read on Long Zhen's blog that Microsoft has apparently decided that they are going to be making additional options for people who want to DX10 (more than likely to help get the platform moving!)

Article: http://www.istartedsomething.com/20...s-using-software-renderer-only-albeit-slowly/

Obviously, yes, you will get a performance hit when using DX9 hardware to do DX10 app's, however you still can run it. It is still best to get DX10 hardware though since it will work with DX11 as well.

Oh, and MS is implementing a full DX10 rasterizer, so you can even run DX10 apps without any fancy graphics card. On the MSDN article Long linked to though, the new Core i7 8 core gets a maximum of 15 FPS, so this is obviously not a solution for anyone.

Anyways, I thought this was a pretty good move. With Win7, assuming all of the XP users will finally start letting go of that ancient OS, and then Vista users upgrading to the OS they deserve, there will be a much bigger install base for DX10 games. Albeit, anyone with DX9 will run slower than with native DX10 cards, but hey, that's just more incentive to upgrade to that hardware then.

I've been messing with the Win7 beta at work, and I have to say that using it for basic tasks such as browsing, office suite and a nice bloated install of itunes, it's running pretty well. On only 1GB of ram that is.

I'm looking forward to the release, just to see if Win7 is gonna be to Vista, what XP was to 2000...

Well, it seems like Win7 is going to be pretty well off. I mean, 98 ->ME->something decentish...

XP->Vista->Win7 SHOULD be the decentish one!

*Crosses Fingers* I finally want a decent OS after XP.

Vista is the shit. But Win7 looks so nice that even i'll update. From Vista that is.

If you liked Vista, you will absolutely love Vista.

If you hated Vista, Win7 provides enough awesome new features, with great performance that it's time to finally look to upgrade as XP is getting more and more outdated now.
