Windows xp 64bit, does it work with Pentium?

i doubt it, and even if it did it wouldn't run efficiently. Just stick to Windows XP 32, theres no need for Windows 64 unless theres some bizaare reason which you have to

You have a 32 bit processor, Windows 64 bit is just that, for 64 bit CPUs.

Depends what you mean by "best",

Best for speed, maybe!
Best for price, Most definately Yes!
But if you think about all the businesses that use computers in the UK, I'd say 95% use Pentium 4, or some sort of Pentium cpu, either the P2,P3 or Celeron.
The reason for that is because, Pentiums have always ran cooler than AMD cpu's.

I know we can add additional cooling for the AMD's, But in an Office enviroment, you need a computer that runs as quietly as possible, Just imagine 20 high end AMD driven computers in an office, Its gonna be pretty noisy.
Thats why most offices use celerons, cos they still can have high gigahertz cpu's but without the need for additional case fans to keep them cool.

Actually most buisnesses use pentiums and celerons because they buy their computers from dell, fujitsu and compaq/hp. They in turn buy their cpus from intell, and the buisnesses look for the larges amount of cheap computers they can find.

It wouldnt surprise me if somebodys 1ghz celeron in the office doesnt require a fan but the newer p4s are quite a bit hotter than AMD and the p4 4ghz was thrown down the drain due to heat.

Thats true, they abandoned the 4GHz P4 didn't they? So what are they going to do now? The Prescotts run incredibly hot, especially compared to AMD 64's. If AMD matched the clock speed of Intel, it might be reversed, but it doesnt need to, because this is a race of speed, not numbers. AMD *usually* wins most speed races without having to quote such a high clock speed (which is why they give the 'theoretical' clock speed name).

For all you AMD 64 bitters...

DO NOT USE the beta windows 64bit. There are so many compatibility issues.
About half of the games i tried worked with the 32 bit emulator, the other half.... no love. Steam games work fine if thats all you care about.
Apps of any sort, say goodbye. Image mounting, burning, even my mobo status apps COULD NOT RUN.
I switched back to XP. There is NO REASON to have the hassle of 64 bit incompatibilities, avoid at all costs.

by the time you get to run 64-bit applications with 64 bit os. Them amd64 bit will be out-dated and we will have some new processors and new motherboards , maybe another new slot of some sort. faster usb connectors and so on.....
