My friend's Pioneer Dreambook Laptop freezes when it's turned on, after the Windows XP loading screen. It just goes black & leaves the cursor in the center of the screen, frozen.

Is there anything that can be done? I've checked the support on their website & it's useless.

Thanks.

When the computer boots up keep hitting F8. You should get a menu that allows you to get in to safemode. See if that works.

Okay that works, it's in Safe Mode now.

So what does this mean?

you actually got that far? damn, I was gonna go to sleep.

Go to control panel > administrator tools > event viewer.

See any errors under system or applications from when you last tried to boot the computer?

Uhh no there's no major events that I can see (mind I'm not overly certain what would be an irregular event).

If say something has been deleted which has caused Windows to be corrupted could I just do a ...erm, well I've forgotten what it's called, the tool which sets it back to the stage it was at a few days ago?

You are loooking for system restore. Go to start > run > msconfig

I think there is an option in there for "launch system restore", Im going off memory.

An irregular event in your error log would be one that is an error, it has a red X next to the event.

Okay, thanks, I found the system restore.

If I do a system restore, do you know if that can fix corrupted files?

It just restores your settings and system files. So it depends on which files are corrupt (if your issue is indeed corrupt files).

Post back if system restore works for you.

She got it fixed, simply by deleting some stuff in Safemode.

Thanks for your help man, it's much appreciated. :D
