I removed my Cd Burner from my old computer and put it into the new one. When I turn on the old one, suddenly I don't even get to the welcome screen there are so many errors.

When I boot my XP CD (which works perfectly on all the other computers in the house) to reformat I get this message in the Windows setup:

FILE NTKRNIMP.EXE COULD NOT BE LOADED. THE ERROR CODE IS 7

SETUP CANNOT CONTINUE. PRESS ANY KEY TO EXIT.

Anybody know what this means, and how I can reformat now?

Thanks.

Dunno about the missing .exe but when you installed the CD Burner did you make sure the jumpers on it were correct?(i.e. it was the main drive before and now became a slave drive). If you didn't there should be simple diagram on the burner itself that will show you what to change.

No, I removed the burner, now it doesn't work, this is what the XP help site says:

To resolve this behavior, restore the computer's BIOS to its default settings. For information about the correct BIOS settings for the computer and about how to check and change these settings, see the computer documentation or contact the manufacturer of the computer.

How do I restore the bios settings, I press DEL in the start screen and then what?

No i think once your in the bios you press f5 and it restores it to defualts.

What bios do you have?

On my old gigabyte it has an option for loading failsafe settings.

I know in my bios you press f5 to reset but its different on all of them.

Ok, figured it out, all I had to do is to tell it that I removed the burner.

I had a problem with putting the burner in my new computer, which you guys helped with and now I solved with the old computer not working without the burner.

I love this forum.
