I cannot reinstall windows XP because when i try to boot from the XP cd it says my hard drive cannot be found/recognized. From what I've been told this is because my hard drive is partioned. I only have one hard drive. I have my local C drive with my windows xp files/drivers on it and then my D drive with 200Gigs for music, games, documents, etc. What can/should I do to reinstall/reformat windows xp. Any advice besides geeksquad will help. Thanks.

Is the drive Serial-ATA? In which case you need to install SATA drivers first.

...and welcome to the forums.

Try a SP2 CD for XP. Also (this may be dumb) but if you built your own computer, check to make sure the connections are solid.

Ah it's a SCSI drive. Could be the same issue though (XP not having the drivers for the SCSI controller on the install CD for it to see the drive).

You may need to go to the manufacturer's website to download drivers and put them onto a floppy disk, and install the drivers off it during the Windows install.

If your machine doesn't have a floppy, you can use a USB drive, or use Slipstream XP disk (google it).

Well i would but when i put the XP cd in, reinstall computer, tell it to boot from disk, then it tells me it cannot find the hard drive. So how will i be able to install the drivers if it stops me there? By the way, is it the motherboard drivers or my Maxtor L300S0 SCSI drivers?
