Hi, I recently got a KV1 Photon Elitegroup motherboard as well as a 64bit processor. However every time the windows logo appears, the computer reboots. do you know whats happening. I have kept my old hard drive but can't find my XP CD anywhere. Just wonderin if there is a bios setting that i have overlooked or something

Had a similar problem...it is likely to be one of a few things....graphics card drivers...start the system in safe mode (hold down f8 at start up) remove the grahics card drivers let windows use its own. This wont help you play games but if the pc starts ok then you have identified its a driver issue.

If you have just done a fresh install and this is happening then do another, formatting the drive again, install may have gone corrupt.

If you just cant get it going then it is either a fault on the motherboard or more likely...RAM. If you have more than one RAM stick remove them and try adding one at a time. Check all fans are working...particularly the CPU fan.

Best of luck. Please dont cheat in games that is only for suckers who are crap at the game. You dont get good unless you are challenged :bounce:

cheers for the advice, I'll do it now, let you know how it went

My old computer went bad a while ago and i bought a new one. I figured that the motherboard was the problem. But now i realized it could be the RAM!! I tried putting the memory in an uber old computer instead of throwing it away but it wouldnt werk either. i thought it was too much memory for that system tohandle. I mite have found my problem. I'm gonna go check it out rite now.

Find yourself the manual or internet pritable version, they usually tellyou how much the computer can take.

As for me

change position of RAM and put each in one by one- Didn't Work
Took my graphics card out- I don't have a female/female connector to connect my monitor to my motherboard so can't do anything about that

Formatting a 120GB harddrive and installing win98- 30% through formatting, waitin for another 3/4 hour

just realised wot u were talkin about...u have put a hdd with xp installed on a system with a new processor n chip.....this will never work! xp is designed such that when it installs all the fixed hardware is registered to it. Fresh install is the only way.

Try doing a repair install.

I ran into a similar problem, but that was only because I went from uniprocessor to SMP.

I dont think u can do a repair install unless it boots. U can do a repair from the recovery console but that should be avoided by the average user as you are dealing with DOS commands. I assume by now you have 98 installed. and all is well again. If you have lost your xp disk you can buy replacements for about £15, Or as you have built your own system you could get away with a OEM copy of xp for under £60

As far as I know, you have to reinstall windows each time you get a new mobo. If you're trying to go from an existing install, BINGO!

Also, got all the motherboard drivers in? And what's you're boot order?

Holy crap, I didn't think anybody was silly enough to install a new motherboard and not format.

Apparently this guy is. He said he's trying to install his MOBO on his existing Hardrive, and CAN'T find his xp install cd.

Maybe This

:sniper: It might be possible to remove an hardrive from an previous xp install. Put in new computer, set Bios to boot from cd-rom, and run the windows repair console, XP should be able to identify the new hardware and allow a boot. It`s worth a try

Format drive, wipe BIOs, and tada. Oh, reinstall Windows XP, its not as simple as inserting then using
