Hey guys.... It's been aehile for me sine I sat down and tried to model soemthing decent... i'll just show my progress on modeling a F-96 for myself...

I figure if I have a threa dabout it, it'll keep me motivated to actually finish it.

well, that is very early into the model :)
good luck, will be cool to follow your updates, what is yout triangle aiming point ?

Did you really expect someone to comment on that work in progress shot? Think about it. :p I'll say something when you post more.

Well, The wholke point of me making this thread was to keep myslef motivated enough to finish the model :p

It's not for a mod or game... jsut modeling for the heck of it....

ank, like i said originally, I made this thread to keep me motivated, not to get crits initally.

i'm very sorry everyone, I misnamed it an F-94, when it really is an f-94... sorry!

It is looking very good.

It is a strange way of setting up the blueprints, looks like you haven't cut the different perspective drawings out but kept them altogether. How come you have done this?

i have never done modeling with the pic textured on the plane ... coz you gotta have smooth high lights and i can never see what im doing i migh perfur having the wire frame on.. ne tios ? coz its looking like its following the pic well

RTazor: no I cut them, then I jsut made 3 planes and mapped them to that.

also, if you were interested, i'm polymodeling this one.

Looking good. That middle post of yours should have been the first post though...

Looks good. I like the cockpit.

This may be a dumb question, but what's polymodeling?

Well, it's also called box modeling. Instead of tracing the model with a line and then extruding it (spline modeling) I started witha box andhave been going from there.

Can you run through how youve set this back ground up, Im realy intrested to know, it looks cool dooing models like this, looking at what your dooing from a 3D point of view.!

All i normaly do is set the back ground up on the left hand payne and put my image and create a box and extrude and thats the start of my modles..

with these pics youve posted you get a sence of width and bulk from the drawings i love it..

The modle looks realy good by the way :)

Well, the glass is a standard material, diffuse is white, and opacity is 50%

Well, I found the ref image online (there's a thread stickyed at top of forum with them).

I opened it in paint, and cut it into 3 sections, then created planes in 3dsmax and applyed them to that. The planes are the exact resolution of the images, so there's no streahing. then I made a random box, based of the top image, and adjusted the other two so they are in line.

What you explained is not so much spline modelling as it is just taking advantage of the line tool using concrete corners to make extrudable shapes. Spline modelling is more like using NURBS, which I guess you could say is using (B-)splines as well. I am not an expert in spline modelling, though I believe it is where you create the essential wireframe of the object using splines and then use lofting to fill in the rest of the space that is uncovered with splines.

Wow...I must be bored...

On to the model. It looks pretty good from what I can see, but due to the render's absense of a well-placed lightsource it is hard to tell. The front looks like it may be lacking in some detail that should be there, but like I said, not much detail is able to be seen in this render. You may want to take a second glance at the front of the cockpit, some of the shapes in that area look a little off (judging from what I can see on the blueprint in the background.)

I can't wait to see the final product. Are you going to texture it as well? If not, then you should force one of the CWMP guys to skin it and threaten them with a cheesecake in the face if they don't.

latest progress....

Ank: I don't plan on skinning it for a few reasons.... 1) the mesh is horrible, and it would suck hard cock to unwrap that, and 2) my hotoshop skills suck.

for any of you interested, even though it doesn't matter, it's around 4000 tris

amnd yes, i know the wings need some work...

Here is a minor update... mainly fixing the air intakes and the wings...
