My latest work has been an M249 machine gun for a mod I'm working on. It is around 2500 polys, still rather unoptimized though. Modeled in Maya, about 6 hours of on-off modeling.

I agree with it being too skinny.

Also, the bipod legs need to come out more (feet are wider apart).
 
Why do the sides at top look like that? They're supposed to be straight, not zig-zagged.

After you go through and optomize it (like taking those grooves out of the handguard which can be done in the textures) you can add some more needed detail, like the cylindrical shape below the front of the handguard, the box magazine, and all of the missing detail on the main body.

(You can also save some more polygons by deleting most of the bullet chain, since they'll be in a box...)

Well so far after 4 posts Ive picked up that it is too thin. I should also mention this is not a 100% accurate representation of an M249, this is done on purpose to give the gun a more updated feel. By this I mean that I left a few things out which you would normally seen in an M249 such as the larger front end of the body where the bullets are discharged. And if anyone has any reference shots of the M249 other than the six Ive seen floating around, please post them.
