Here is the Spitfire 7.62mm WIP render for Hostile Freedom. I haven't really posted anything yet, so I will start by posting this image:

I was expermenting with clip placement and I just realized I left it in the wrong spot for this render. So please excuse that minor problem. A new render with added enhancements is currently underway.

This is a future mod right? So thats not a real gun?

Assuming the above is true, don't be afraid to use modern gun references when your making your futuristic guns. Like the grip for example.

Here's how I'd change it:
1) Style the grip like a real gun. Try using a photoreference within your 3d program to start.
2) The thing under the barrel what is that? If it's for using the gas of the fired bullet to cycle the gun make it smaller. Maybe connect it some way to the barrel.
3) Make the flash hider a larger diameter than the barrel.

Thats my 2 cents any way, I'd like to see how it turns out, keep posting :).

I do use real guns as a reference. The thing under the barrel is a flashlight. Now that Half-Life 2 supports bump mapping, you don't have to worry about minute-details because they can be easily added with a bump-map. And what is wrong with the grip? It's very generic in terms of style and design. Perhaps add something extra? And I see where you are going with the barrel. I scaled it the wrong way.

Ahh... notice I said "how I'd change it". Just my opinion :)

Is it suppose to be the same gun altered to that, or another version, cause I like the older better...

very nice.

the old one looks more like a rifle.....if you added a stock to it.

the new one looks like a smg.

Apparently people are saying that they look entirely different. So I will use them both. The Spitfire line of rifles is actually pretty wide in the world of Hammerstein, so it makes sense.

yes it does,

If you use the same weapon, with the magazine in different places, then remember to texture them differently..

The weapon just looks shorter with the magazine in the forward position for some reason, that the thing....

and, a few smoothing groups would make the weapon look a treat ;)

newer one is better...
might wanna add one of those shoulder thingy's that mp5's have otherwise it'd be a little uncomfortable shooting it :)

To be honest, it could use a lot of work. Bump maps certainly can create a decent illusion of geometry, but still can't compare to modeled detail, especially when looking at it from far angles like it will be seen from the player's point of view. There are a lot of details that could be added that I wouldn't consider "minute details," such as some form of sights, a cocking handle, and a magazine release. I suppose you could say that the latter two aren't necessary since it's the future, but things like that can make a lot of difference in the overall look of the weapon, and make the animations that much more interesting.

I liked the old one better. The grip/rear looks worse now IMO. The front part starting with the magazine and the top reciever look like it could be a real gun. The rear part, grip and trigger do not.

make a special foregrip as in detail it more.
add some doo hickys everywhere like switches for firing modes and hooks anything tha pops into ur head :)

nothing special. It don't look right at all for some reason. Dunno why. It don't look like its a real gun. I mean obviasly its not a real gun (i think) but a futuristic gun has to look realistic, if u get me?

Futuristic doesn't mean you can just whip up a totally new design for a gun. That's like me saying, ok, my mod is Grey City, it's about 40 years into the future, that means all guns will be square cubes that have cool designs on them and shoot from an unknown source and are structured in an unknown way. Get what I mean? You have to make it look like real gun, even if it isn't one.

well it does, so stop being so lame :)
it is a lot further than in 40 years from now, and please say what part of it that isnt realistic?
to stitch: very neat model, though i dont like the back of it in the newest version, and you can use a bit more poly's ..wouldnt hurt?

Lets keep it friendly :)

Any way I like this qoute from the master Masamune Shirow (well my master any way hehe), creator of Ghost in the Shell:

I have no idea how far into the future firearms will still be a mainstay of combat, but I continue to draw guns like this one in even my more futuristic illustrations because I want that "realistic feel".

- Next to a picture of a cool looking handgun...

Addendum - since Stitch listed the caliber of the firearm I think it's safe to say he's going for a realistic feel :)

my bigest prob with it is its flat and he is leaving the detail to texturing and bump map.

i am :)

the "lame thing was just to point out that i didnt really mean anything by it(does that make any sense? ..guess not) ;)

Hehe. I wasn't talking to any one in particular... besides just ignore me I'm no mod ;).

I like seeing non-real stuff here, and I'm excited to see how Stitch's gun turns out, I just think it need work.

Thanks for the crits; they are truly appreciated. I haven't modelled in quite some time, I believe Max 2.5 was the last time. So bare with me. I agree with most of you and I will see what I can do to better this weapon as it is still WIP.

Keep them coming fellas. Crits help master a creation.

says who? people like you are the reason every damn fps has the same weapons.

It can look like whatever the hell he wants. Im guessing your not a very creative person.

ontopic: any plans to add a stock to the first one...and mabey a shoulder butt to the second?

Laser guns are impossible unless you had a big ass power source.. like alien stuff in a pistol ya know? I know a gun design but sorry.. my mod only..

Laser guns? Ha, sorry, we don't do lasers. It's too, Star Wars-esque. :) And crabcak, well I'm currently working the model now adding new detail and whatever else I figure needs to be done.
