I just got a wireless router and laptop, and I've set up my wireless network using WPA-PSK. Both the laptop and PC have internet access, but I don't have access between the two computers... I can't even ping them! They have sequential IP addresses in the same subnet (DHCP from the router). What's the deal here?

Did you assign them IP addresses, or did you set it to have one assigned by DHCP?

so your saying you want to share files between computers correct or are you saying something else?

Yes, I want to share files... but right now there is 0 connectivity between the two.

Is file and print sharing enabled?

Are they both using the same version of XP?
No, the PC is using XP Pro and the Laptop has XP Home.

Do you mean like in the network adapter settings? If so, then yes.

I don't think its a software or OS thing - at least not yet - seeing as the two computers can't even ping eachother. I'm thinking it is something on the router, but I have no idea what it would be.

Some routers allow you to isolate the wireless network from the LAN, mainly for security reasons. It'll be worth checking it such a setting exists.

UPDATE: I'm able to get from my laptop to my pc, but not the other way around :\

Thought so. You need to enable/make viewable networked UPnP devices on your XP Pro desktop.
Do this before screwing with your router.

Also go into your manager and make sure they are on the same workgroup. Not necessary, but it helps.

I know this isn't my topic, but this solved my almost identical problem. The only difference is I have pro on both my desktop and laptop. I could never figure out why I wasn't able to see both ways.

Both are in the same workgroup. I've enabled the uPnP service on both machines, but it didn't seem to do anything. What else do I need to do?

EDIT: I found the "show upnp icon" thing in My Network Places and clicked it on both my laptop and desktop. My router showed up on both, the desktop showed up on the laptop, but the laptop didn't show up on the desktop. I still can't ping from the desktop to the laptop, but I can ping from the laptop to the desktop. What now?

One thing that I did a while back to get two wired desktops to see each other was (assuming you have a software firewall, such as Norton) is to open up your real IP address (not 192.168.1.xxx) on both machines.
