A woman who tried to ship a live puppy from Minneapolis to Atlanta through the mail failed in her attempt to reclaim the animal after it was intercepted by concerned postal workers.
Last Month, 39-year-old Stacey Champion attempted to send as a birthday present a 4-month-old Schnauzer-poodle mix, named Guess, through the U.S. Postal Service. After the dog was taken by animal control for its own safety, she appealed for its return. On Monday, City of Minneapolis administrative hearing officer Fabian Hoffner ruled against her attempt to recover the dog, saying what she did was "disgraceful."
Postal officials had testified that they had become concerned about the parcel, dropped off at Loring Station post office in downtown Minneapolis, when it moved unexpectedly and breathing could be heard from inside. After permission was granted by a postal inspector, it was opened and the puppy was discovered. The box bearing Champion's return address was sealed, with packing tape covering airholes that had been cut into the box. There was no food or water inside.
