Won't start installing

Well, aftert returning one copy of HL2 to the store because of a bad cd#1, I'm running into further problems. The new copy of the cd autoruns fine and the installer program runs, but I can't figure out how to specify which drive to install it to. It designates a drive without enough space, and won't let me change it. Then, it gets to the screen where it says that I have an up-to-date version of DirectX, but the "next" button doesn't work (no error or anything, it just won't proceed). Unknown if the two problems are related or not.

Any suggestions?

Well, problem solved. Seems HL2 will only copy itself to the same directory where Steam is installed. So, since I already had Steam installed (on a hd without enough space), it got a little confused.

You got a Bad CD #1 too?

Can you tell me the probs you had with it? Because I think my CD #1 is also bad. When I put in the CD #1, my CD rom drive makes weird noises and then my comp slows down. This does not happen with every other CDs.
