Because they tried to make alchohol illegal before...and well that didn't go over so well.

Same thing would happen with Marijuana...while it might not be as dangerous as alchohol while under the influence, it has negative long term effects.

Oh well, this thread isn't about legalising weed so lets not debate that here.
