My mod is in it's fledgling stages (still gathering folks to work on it)
and I wanted to know what the deal with copywritten music is.... can i use movie score, and other songs off of CDs, along with due credit?

Obviously the mod will not be sold for any money or anything.

Anyone know the rules?

EDIT: Hm, I'm not even sure this is the right forum. Is it?

if you didn't make it yourself or you don't have permission, you can't use it.

That goes with "themes" too, as in matrix, starwars, alien vs predator etc.

Oh yeah, I know about the themes and such, just the music had me wondering. Thanks guys.

Basically as a rule of thumb, anything that can be, or is copyrighted, needs to have written permission from the owner before you can consider using it in your project(s) :)

unless you release the mod on p2p then you can break all the copyrights you like!

and then you'll have to go into hiding.

the most you can legally use is a 10sec clip, looped samples do infringe on copyright. But you can always find the score and have somebody do something similiar, by changing the beat and or tones and voices. since alot of times your looking for something that is loopable and plays for 2-3 minutes.

if you really like something check to see who owns the rights, musician like to have thier music heard and games can provide a new challange
