Hi, I have made a little .zip file including the .bsp and the .vmf for a map that has a working pod racer I made from scratch. It will show some of the finer points of making brush based vehicles.

feel free to comment or ask questions. peace :)

what's the thing called that you use so you can actually 'get in' vehicals you make?

what is that thing in the mod i cant tell is it a person?

yeah it looks a bit plain, add more detail to it like a bigger laser, cracks, and a differant metal

It's quite nifty I must say. The thing in the cockpit is a prisoner pod. The only thing that bothered me was that I found it near impossible to steer, I could only seem to barrel roll and end up upside-down (and more often than not I was).

I'll admit I dreamed of having a hl2 podracer a while ago and this one is quite nice, but it lacks in steering. Maybe you could try it like the 'actual' pod racers and assign both pods their own forward thrusters (making sure they are far apart enough to make a difference) then make left click push the left pod and right click push the right pod. This way together the pod moves forward, just left click turns right, and just right click turns left. Great work though!

Thanx. The pod actually moves forward when u click the left mouse button. and each of the engines actually do have their own thrusters; engine 1, engine 2 and the pod are each their own phys boxes. And yeah it is pretty hard to stear. for those of you who wanted more detail, I wanted to make a quick model because teh point wasnt to make a detailed model, i just wanted to test the possibilities of a brush based vehicle with this kind of vehicle design. Thanx!

BTW, Short Recoil, I've not messed with every environment effect for halflife2 yet and I was wondering, in that pod racer that u made with the jeep, how did u get that heatwave blur coming from the back of those pods? thanx

I think you can do your own heat blur, it might be the env_smoke entity or whatever, set it to use a shader texture instead of the black smokey one...

Whatever it is, I saw it in IchI's mapping tut. on entities where he makes the gas cylinder...
