This is old as hell but doesn't seem to be posted here..

VIDEO:

The vehicle, called the Tata Nano, will sell for 100,000 rupees or $2,500 (?1,277) and enable those in developing countries to move to four wheels.

The four-door five-seater car, which goes on sale later this year, has a 33bhp, 624cc, engine at the rear.

It has no air conditioning, no electric windows and no power steering, but two deluxe models will be on offer.

MADNESS! This is really going to be the end of the world.

id buy a couple just to use as bumper cars...

I can imagine those would fall apart in an accident even if you run over a small rodent

If it got up to 60 I'd seriously consider buying it.

Alas.

Yeah everybody is gonna be driving the cheap looking Johnny Cab cars:

"It looks cute, it's extremely cheap to buy, extremely cheap to make, offers no features, and it's not even fast." Great let's put it in production! That's probably what went through the CEOs mind. Whatever happened to real metal cars that required no bondo and real horsepower? American Muscle FTW!

No, instead we got cars now that are completely cheap in every way. :bonce: *I wonder how they can fit 5 people in that thing anyways. It's like a cheap clown car. Ahh well, they can fit them all inside, after all, it is marketed to India. :p **We should just manufacture go-carts for them:

Just another way to **** up the planet even faster.

So, when are they releasing the rally-spec version?

And I do two identical posts every 15 minutes

Can anyone say "Turbo Hayabusa engine"?

BTW, hool, that muscle car montage gave me a boner.

Yeah, because keeping the world's poor in a permanent state of economic disadvantage through immobility is really saving the planet.

When an old man in a remote village in India dies because he had no way to get to the hospital, rest assured we can sleep easy because we're saving the planet by denying his family a car.

I heard on the news today about the indians rioting about this or something..

Shut the f*ck up, all you pricks out there. This car has passed the full frontal crash test and passes the Euro IV emission norms. It's not the safest or the cleanest car, but it's far from an "environmental nightmare". This is the ONLY car that millions around India can hope to afford in their lifetimes.

And then there's the ridiculous argument about "traffic chaos". Well, tough sh*t. Poor people have the right to clog up our roads and pollute the air as much as rich people do.

And besides, your opinion doesn't even matter, numbnuts. This isn't a cheap car for cities. It's a car designed specifically for rural areas without roads.

That's one small riot outside the production facility. The lower/middle class here is pretty excited about this car.

The "concerns" about safety are hilarious given context - given the usual alternative is for a family of four to ride around on a moped all at once.

If you really wanted to live a long time, you probably wouldn't make a habit of driving on Indian roads anyway. ;)
