CCAPP.EXE
Google informs me this a Norton Antvirus programme but it's taking up too much god damn memory. AT it's 22,440 K and it's like that every time I'm on the internet. I also have an svchost.exe that is taking up even more memory. Is this normal? I now have firefox at 30,000-40,000. those two at 22,000, explorer.exe (that's just windows running, right?) at 30,000 and iTunes at 54,008. And sometimes I'd have photoshop, MSN and maybe a few other things open too. I'd like to know if these are spyware or can be sorted out not to use up so much memory, thanks.

BNorton is indeed a memory whore, and is not the best in protecting yur PC, Software firewalls noadays are abit poor, get a hardware one, ie one built into a router. Work much better and doesnt hog your system resources. PS for a windows optimization guide look here

Having all those programs you stated above cannot be great for the system, i bet your windows runs that slow, its unimagible, yet you will most likely disagree as you've gotten used to the speed. In theory you should have no more than 16 processor running in XP. Once you have this many processes, you know that your Windows is tweaked as much as it can.

google is your friend, just past the exe name into google and search.

ccApp.exe is a part of Norton Antivirus, it handles things like email virus checking and such. You are fine.

I just wanted to be sure, though I did notice that in the searches everyone called is ccapp and in my list it comes up as CCAPP. Is it normal for a svchost to take up that much memory too?

I have 7 svchost.exe's running and they all run at different mem usage amounts, like as follows...

3,932K - 2612K - 1,940K - 3,608K - 6,552K - 35,352K and 1,304K

It all depends on how many programs you have running on the bottom right of the start menu bar.

nod32 AV is running with 22MB of memory here. =p
But then again I have a lot of other memory intensive apps. (54% memory used of 2GB @ desktop)
