well.... today i hva bought the precious half life 2... And came home 2 find out that i diden't have a dvdrom on my pc :'( in fact the only pc in the house with a dvd is a old laptop, witch i used to install the game from. Mapping the dvd and on the main comp. But when i enterd my cd key it asked for the dvd... well.. i really don't have any money left for a dvd. but is there anyway to do a virtual drive somehow? a perfect match from the laptop to the pc?? Please help me if u can.... :x

It is very possible. Create an iso of the DVD and them place it on your Half-Life 2 computer. Then use a program like Alcohol 120% and setup a Virtual drive using the ISO you created. Then when Steam complains about the DVD in the drive, just point it to your Virtual Drive. Also note, you do not have to use Alcohol 120%, but that is a program that I know is out there, and works fairly well.

Download steam from the internet, download hl2 preload from steam, hit register games I own and enter your cd key and the game will unlock for you and you will be able to play it. What you bought is the same thing you can dl from steam good luck.

well, i have an isdn connection and the it took long time to install so it must be over 3 gb.... I will try the virtual drive.. Thank u very much..

Dude just start the download go to lunch, go hang out with friends, go be a kid, then when you come back its all done. You can also download dvddecryptor and deamon tools. Both freeware programs, work 100 times better than alchohol 120. Seems that by the time you rip the dvd to iso on your pc then burn the iso to 5 cds then load the 5 cds on your main pc that you could of done the same thing without doing any work by just clicking on steam to start the download process. Patience is a virtue. With the dl theres a good chance that you won't run into any problems where the iso method, if its your first time, might give you a bunch of errors and problems. Or you can start the download on the once pc and do the iso on the other, or you can go to a friends house who has the game, have him back up the files for you on 5 cds and come home and install it. Lost of options you choose the easiest one for you.

well... I did as u said (Alcohol 120%) and made an image on my main pc. When i try to load the game "Half life 2 source" it says ""Conflict with disk emulated software detected"" I hae tryed Daemon and Alcohol 120% to mount them ... Do i Really have to buy a dvd for it to work??

just create a new user on your WinXP and this error shouldn't come anymore.
