I just noticed that the price of the Logitech Z-5500 has dropped to $215 dollars at Newegg and I'm probably going to purchase some soon.

Right now I'm using some logitech 6.1 surround speakers (X620) and was wondering:
Could I hook up these new speakers alongside my old speakers?
I have 3 audio jacks on the back of my soundcard (Front, Rear, Subwoofer/Center) and I was thinking that I could just plug my current speakers into the rear output, then plug the 5500s into the Front and Center jacks.

Then I'd have a 11.2 speaker system. So, hardware gods! Would this idea work?

Thanks :)

Are these active or passive speakers? If passive you need to check that your soundcard can provide enough power to the speakers.

You probably would have a messed up surround (many speakers playing the same channel in different directions can mess the surround sound).

If that connection would work then the 6 speakers in the back would just play back the 2 or 3 channels that go to the back (in 5.1, two, in 6.1 three). So in 6.1 surround you would have two speakers outputting the sound per channel. Same thing goes to the front.

And it's not recommended to put different speakers together because the speakers may not integrate well with each other. But then again we are talking about a Logitech set... So good quality in sound doesn't exist in them. So no wories about the integrration.

And secondly If you use two subwoofer they need to be identical or else it won't sound nice. With two subwoofers you will be able to get more pressure with the same frequency. Then again these are logitech subwoofers (I wouldn't even call these things subwoofers).

And no use in 11.2 system, no movie or game uses 11.2 system (even 7.1 is very rare). I would recommend going with with 5.x or 6.x.

But no harm trying the 11.2 one.

well i dont know too much about speaker setups, but i believe that it would be a better idea just to use the z-550s. Im not entirely sure but i know its not that good to use too many speakers, because theres not enough power or ohms or something like that. But im sure someone will answer with a much better answer

I'm not sure what you mean here. The speakers receive power from a wall outlet.

That's what I'm worried about.

That's what I'm looking for. I figure that usually the more speakers the better and the better sound direction.

Lollercaust.

Active speakers mean that the speakers don't take the power from the soundcard or an amplifier. And passive is the other way around.
