Im trying to decide what I want to be in WoW and I was just wondering if you guys can help me. All me friends are going to be horde when the public beta is released (they dont have fileplanet accounts like me) and because I heard that alliance and horde players cant play together Im stuck with the horde. So im thinking about being a shaman.

But can you guys that also have the beta just give me your impressions on the charachters you have and the spells and weapons because im having trouble deciding and I dont want to have to make more then one charachter.

I really want to get a head start on my friends in this game because I have never been able to do better then them in warcraft 3 but when its a game like joint ops I wipe the floor with them.

Like i always say, "In blizzard RTS's they have editors, very advanced editors. Never say you can't beat them, simply make a nice balanced Custom Game(or UMS for Sc) that your good at (or an unblanced rigged one..) and own em.." Remember that... As I am a Map Maker, for sc and wc3 and im good, very good.

TBH its bets just to be what you want. all that really matters in WOW is A) the time you put into levelling up your character and B) that you enjoy playing as your character. so rather than thinking "how will this help me do well", think "what would be really, really cool".

so first pick your character race. will you be undead, orc, troll or tauren? only go with tauren if you either have a thing for cows or really want to be a druid, otherwise it would probally be better to go with an orc or undead. trolls are just plain annoying. But of course thats my opinion ;) you should also judge on where you start off- if youre an orc you will start near some very boring barren plains, but if your undead you get to start in the ruins of lorderon and the dead forests around it which is very cool. but dont let this limit you- its completely free to get a zeppellin between the capital cities / starting areas :)but if you ask me i'd be undead- theyre so damm kewl!

anyway, then onto classes. Mages are the generic spell catser- but then theres a warlock wich is the same only much more evil and can summon demon pets, and theres the preist who is far more focused on healing. so if youre instrested in magic you have to think- do i want to be evil with pets, a healer to support groups, or just generally good at casting fireballs and offensive spells? keep in mind that all types of spellcasters can only wear cloth armour.

but if spellcasting doesnt float your boat, youre going to want to go with the fighter classes. now theres the warrior- who is the basic fighter. he can learn to use almost any weapon in the game: from guns to bows to axes. fighters have lots of skills and are generally good if you dont like spells and want to get into the action. they can wear all types of armour. But if you want to be stealthy theres the rouge, who can only really use daggers and shortswords- but can duel weild and hide from enemies. i think he can only wear leather. and if you want something in the middle theres the hunter- they are adept with long range weapons like bows and guns, and are experts with daggers and can dual weild. they can only wear leather... but the main thing about them is that when they are level 10 they get to tame a pet!!! now this can be any creature as long as its not humanoid, all they have to do is tame it in combat and its theirs. it can be a huge bear, a giant spider or a veloceraptor. its your choice!

Then there are the "other" classes such as druids, that can turn into animals, and shamans which are a secondary healing unit i think. Oh and one more thing... when you get to level 40 you can upgrade your armour (e.g. from cloth to leather if your a mage, or if your a fighter mail to plate).

and remember- pick what you will find fun, not what will kill enemies easiest! pick a character that you like. all characters are excellently balanced, so a level 10 warrior would be at the same skill level as a level 10 warlock- the only differences would be the players skill and items- everything else would be balanced perfectly.

GL HF :D

errr... yoes, as gunner said, you could just read on the offical "town centre" site. :)

I love being a priest. I'm only a level 7, but between my all of my spells, enemies (at my skill level) can't hurt me. One of my spells is a shield that absorbs all damage for 30 seconds. ;)

I want to find a group to go exploring with because I would find it fun to be able to help out my teammates while casting some awesome spells.

Just find a class that interests you the most.

I agree, be what's fun, and not the most powerful. Like my mage, I love turning monsters into sheep with my polymorph spell :E

Im a level 8 Undead Priest :D
yeah I became a priest to be able to help others, but they stand their own ground pretty damn well (when soloing)

well I think i will be a shaman because they have the wards which sound cool. It can also wear leather armour and I think at a high enough level it can go to chain. It also seems to be fairly balanced in all of its abilities, and I will be able to resurect my friends if one of them dies.

I gotta try the horde sometime before the beta is over! :)

you must. i have a level 12 undead warlock on the beta server 2, and the undead capital is truly amazing. when you stand in lorderons hall you hear echoes of what went on in there.... you hear arthus betraying his father, and teh beginning demo clip occasionally echoes, with the advisors talking about the threat of the horde and plague. Then when you actually enter the undercity, its a huge evil lair of oozing goo and decapitated humans.

<3 WOW

I just tried a Troll, good stats for a rogue :)

I'll try an undead but they're better suited for mage/priest classes than fighting no?

It seems the Horde is now much more suited toward being a good warrior with the new racial bonuses. I am rather enjoying being a dwarf warrior, much moreso than I enjoyed my mage.

Go undead Warlock, it just seems suitable.

then go to the tailor just outside of Brill (on the right in the farm house just before you cross the bridge into brill) and get yourself some Tailoring apprenticeship.

I LOVE THIS EFFING GAME!!!!!!

they just did everything right, you get such a sense of accomplishment from quests, from crafting, everything is just so detailed... and well thought out.. its like nothing else.

they don't punish you for playing their game... you don't need to spend years collecting ingots from a mine, doing nothing but macroing a couple keys... only to try and smith something and lose all your ingots.. no
in WOW, you can get your needed recipe items from killed foes... for instance I can be a Warlock, and go kill stuff with my buddies, do quests be a real player and have a great action game... meanwhile when I slay humanoids they sometimes drop cloth linen... I can take that linen and use my tailoring skill to turn them into Cloth Bolts....

every single time I create a cloth bolt I GAIN a point in my tailoring, as well as get an item,... NO FAILING, instant gratification.

my user created item sells for like triple the amount (even at the lowest level of tailoring) of a dropped item of similar value.... thus encouraging me to create items.

also my item is branded with my name (this item is created by ***) and carries (usually) Double the protection of similar dropped armor....

also you can purchase new recipes.
Say I want to buy the recipe for "red linen robe", this will then allow me to create red linen robes.. all I need is the ingredients, which are "2 cloth bolts, 2 coarse thread and 1 red dye".
these are objects that are thoroughly easy to get, you can buy coarse thread in the undercity (amazing graphically) at the tailor in the mage quarter, as well as red dye. both will run you about 10 copper a piece, the cloth can be bought for cheap, or you can get it as I mentioned earlier from loot off humanoids.

you never fail to create something, so your time getting said items will never be wasted. and it increases my tailoring by one, and then I sell it for like 200copper pieces, for a low level tailor, thats a ton of cash... not to mention the robe I make is UNCOMMON, a green item.. with added abilities (+2 spirit), my brother who is an enchanter/disenchanter, then takes my robes that I make surplus of, and disenchants them into his ingredients.. he then enchants our other weapons and armor... it is fantastic.

DOWNLOAD THIS GAME NOW!!!
THEN BUY IT :D

I had been playing Undead most of my time since I got the stress test (a day or two ago)... then I decided I was gonna try Humans.. WOW.. I was blown away, its like amazing how different everything is.. the surroundings are brilliant.. I mean there are moments where I am standing there and I am like... wow.. so beautiful.

man I have done like 40 quests in 2 days (different races) getting a taste of everything... and the current level cap is 60!!?!? I can't wait to see whats in store for high level chars.

MR. redundant, you just listed the main things i love about WOW. I was a undead warlock once, and i took great joy in both my tradeskills. the two i chose were tailoring and enchanting... and just like you said, all the green items i could "dischant" to gain enchanting supplies, which was incredibly useful.

p.s. what level are you, and have you got the voidwalker yet? thats one kewl pet he can take so much damage before he dies :)

yeah the voidwalker looks so kickass....
as for my character.. I have been skipping around all kinds, so no I don't have my voidwalker yet.. my warlock is lvl 9.

I have a level 12 undead rogue, 120 skinning (journeyman), 69 leatherworking (journeyman)

I have a lvl 10 undead priest, 40 tailoring

I have a lvl 11 Human warrior

plus a couple others.

the world of WoW is ENORMOUS... I mean holy shite.. two continents, with a ton of territories.
I decided to go exploring with my bro, you know check out the forests of silverpine, the monastery etc... the scope of this game blows my mind.

I cant even imagine how many quests there are... I have done like 50 in Brill and Deathknell alone.

I ran towards the plaguelands, and saw those myst spiders... HOLY CRAP. super fast, one bite and I imploded.. no level sign next to their name (it usually shows a level, color coded dependant on it's level relevant to you, showing difficulty and xp gain)....

instead it was a big fat skull.

this MMorpg plays like a single player game, both in that it runs excellently, has no latency issues even on high load servers (it runs as well as if it were offline), but also in that it has a story, that you become part of.

that is one of it's strong points.... as well of as one of it's weak ones.

I find that you can't really advance that well without questing... but the quests can become very repetitive.. run out kill this many creatures return here for reward... sometimes pick up some random quest item enemy drops.

its still in stress test, so most people aren't playing it like an mmorpg (nearly everyone solos unless they know eachother outside of the game) I don't see anyone partying up.
you don't even need to party in this game though, it is very easy to level yourself.... and that is good.. and bad.

as I mentioned earlier it plays a lot like an action game, and that's why people play it as such.

now don't get me wrong, you have to play this game to believe it.. it is simply fantastic.

but the problem is the classes... in other mmos, you pick what you basically want to be... and you can multiclass, change direction, learn stuff from there...

in WoW, its pretty much like classes in Diablo (in fact it plays a LOT like diablo).... this also leads to boredom, at least for me.
Im enjoying the story, the graphics, the trade-skills.. but as far as incentive to progress.... its kinda meh.

I don't understand while Im kinda getting bored with it, only yesterday I was thinking it was the best game ever concieved.
I mean I played UO for over 4 years.. and it only takes me 3 days to get bored of WoW? I dunno what it is.

and why the hell are mounts and Helmets so expensive!!!
damn you blizzard I want my helms!! :(

on the other hand.. this game has so many items, so many creatures, SO MUCH LAND, its inconcievable how they created so much with such an attention to detail... really its breath-taking.
from the brilliant animations, to the excellent stylized models and textures.

the sound is a tad lacking, and things feel a bit soft most of the time.. (there are quite a few noticeable times when you say, "well they coulda added good footstep sounds here" etc. ) however the music is amazing, and envokes emotion and immersion how it rolls into different themes for different areas.

the contrast of the capitals of the races is stupendous, going from the decrepid dark dead homeland of the forsaken (undead race), to the lush green farmland of the Human settlements... simply amazing.

there is a lot more I could say, and I might later.. but for now Im gonna go play some WoW ;)

WOW is gigantic. I didn't realize that there was more than one continent. Hell, I pretty much thought the Night Elf starting colony was it. I was wrong.

Yesterday, I finally went over to one of the main continents. Absolutely amazing. I participated in an amazing raid party. There were about 25 night elves battling against an equal number of undead. It was glorious. Even though I was a puny level 10 priest, I still felt important. I was in the middle of battle, trying not to get myself killed while resurrecting bodies and healing people.

What is so great about resurrecting bodies? Well, it is great fun to be helping people out. It is also hair-raising at the same time because when casting my resurrection spell, I can't move for ten seconds. Then another 2 seconds immediately afterwords because I need to cast them a healing spell to make sure they don't die right away. So basically I am a sitting duck for 13 seconds.

Of course, you get kinda of cocky and then you have some high level undead person kill you in one hit. It was great fun.

I really love the crafting as well. I love creating my own armor and selling it as well. Crafting in WOW is like one of those "well, duh" revalations that RPG's should have gotten a while ago. Not to mention crafting items puts you name on it. I also like how I can make dress up clothes. Adds a bit of personality to the game.

Not to mention the game is incredibly stable and lag free. Not to mention the lack of bugs. Aside from Doom 3, I haven't played such a complete, stable and bug-free game this year.

The only downside is that I wish there was more sound variety. Some more music would have been nice as it can get a bit repetitive. The graphics quality is a bit lacking, but the colorful environments make up for that.

This is one game that simply deserves your money when it is released.

I've played a priest to level 19 and a rogue to level 18. My Priest was thoroughly suck-ass until like the very end of the stress test once I got some nice stuff by going through a five-hour instance... it made me cuss a lot... I liked people complimenting me on my expert healing skillz, though. :P

I prolly had more fun as a rogue... espeially in PvP. I was in a group with three other rogues... and we absolutely terrorized the horde at the crossroads in the Barrens. :D They were all chaotic running around frantically, thoroughly freaking out while we stealthed around and picked them off... it was awesome... I also liked the energy thing... having mana and always running out and stuff stresses me out... and sprint was fun... even if the cooldown was way too long. :P

Tomorrow I'll be starting a Night Elf Hunter... because I want to use guns and eventually get me one of those dinosaur bitches from the Barrens as a pet...

I have tried out most classes, very disapointed with some of the female avatars, they look abit stupid. Troll class is boring, the quests are just the orc ones..

Dont really have a main, as Im not going to far into the game, as if theres a wipe before retail, I dont want to have to do TONS of quests that I allready have done before.

But Im going to have a Undead mage and Night elf warrior in retail. My night elf is called Yuin on test 9 PVP. Welcome to give her a mail ingame (with some money in it! :P)

Man after hearing your little PVP battle story blah, i REALLY WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME. Ive always wanted to play in a big raid in a MMO, but i just never really got into MMO's. I can just picture a big battle like that with me (a tauren warrior) in the thick of it with a giant battle axe just smashing at the enemy and having Undead priests healing me with smaller warrior orcs on my side battleing it to the death. Friends and foe being ressurected and running back into battle, people ganging up on one enemy and moving to the next. Humans riding in on horse mounts from the north and supporting the allience while trolls meet them in battle riding on raptors and then other tauren run up along side me and start to swing away. Dwarves over in the east firing their rifles into the middle of our lines.....and i think about this with out even playing the game yet.(yeah i have a good imagination when it comes to battles)

EDIT: Anyone, post up your raid battles, or any for that matter because i love hearing about them.

The new Race Traits patch came out, and since then no servers are showing up after I login... is it just me? or are servers down.

the server status page and forums are broken on the WOW community page.

im gonna try and DL the new patch then.

and letters, thats the reason i became a hunter :D to use bows and arrows and to get a dinasaur as a pet. or more precisely a veloceraptor. anyway, the bow system is sublime, hunter is my fave class so far.

and about healing classes... i used to constantly heal with my paladin when in groups, but i only needed to cast the spell 3 times and im out of mana :/ ofc thats as wella as the combat skills i am using. even so, in a group you can see why paladins are "secondary" healers... they run out of mana so quickly.
