They're called ligers, hybrids from a female tiger and a male lion. Biggest cats there are, up to twice the size of a tiger and avarage at 900 pounds!

Anyone ever heard of them? I hadn't, up till now. I love lions, but these are even cooler.

The point of this thread? Dunno, just sharing the beauty of nature I guess :)
 
I thought it looked like a lion inbred with a cow.
 
I heard of them from Napoleon Dynamite, but never knew they actually existed.

Those are still pretty shite compared to a Liger though.
 
ligers are huge because a gene which checks their growth is disabled by the crossbreeding. They simply keep growing until they die.

Ya, Siberian tigers are the most beautiful animal on the planet IMO.
 
Ligers have been around for some time now, i thought their size which is about 11 or 12 feet tall i think was down to the fact both tigers and lions grew large anyway and it was that 1+1 = twice as big. Awesome hybrid animal, but could never naturally occur considering the locations of both big cats.

Tions are pretty much the same thing as a liger, except instead of being twice as big it's half-size.

Or you should've used the rather common English word, "long".
 
We have the opposite hybrids at the zoo here, they're called Tigons (male tiger/female lion offspring).

Snow leopards are cuter though.

I hope you where being ironic but in case not, here's a rant:
What the hell else are they going to do? Give it an entirly new name? Call it a lion-tiger, oh wait, that has the same problem. Would it suddenly become unsexist if the female's name came first? It's just how it f*cking works, it's not sexists, it's just how the orgainise it to make it easy to remember so you won't get ligers and tigons mixed up!
 
Female Lion + Male Tiger

"L" is the twelfth letter and "T" is the twentieth letter
(12+20)/2 = 16 So the first one is "P".
And the other letters in the word can be made out by the same way.
