I thought it might be interesting to hear some of your stories from the world of azeroth, I'll start, here's mine:

name: Sternn
race: nightelves
class: rogue
lvl:21

so there I am in Auberdine accepting a class quest to go to stormwind ,..on the other continent ..never been there, dont know where to go.
So I take the boat to the other continent and begin my long journey to stormwind (human capital) I run for what seems to be hours till I find Ironforge (awesome, impressive city) ..I try asking directions on how to get to stormwind through the mountains of the land of the dwarves (dont know name) but no one knows ..so I walk all over till I finally give up and trek back to Ironforge to take the goblin tram (think subway) it's pretty dark in there and there are 2 platforms ...but no clear markings as to where they go ..At this point I was a little frustrated that I couldnt find my way to Stormwind ..so I see somebody standing in the shadows at the end of the subway platform. So I walk up to the person and start typing "where does this tram go" ...and the person shoots me with a crossbow ..that's when I realize he's a troll enemy trying to kill me ...the crossbow is doing major damage so I turn around to run away only to run into 2 more trolls who were also hiding ..and then they froze my legs to the ground and threw balls of magic at me ..with 2 quick blasts I'm dead ...damn I was kinda pissed cuz I had no idea where I would resurrect ..so I materialise at the cemetary open my map and lo and behold I'm right next to Stormwind ...YAY! my stupidity brought me closer to stormwind! too bad I still dont know how to get there :E

The people you asked must have been complete retards... i mean surely someone must have aswered if you used the general channel? even the horde know how to get from ironforge to stormwind! you either A) go to the great forge (right in the middle) and pay 50c to fly on a gryphin (can't spell 'em :) ) or go to the far east to tinker town and get the tram, like you said. It's actually impossible to enter the train station unless you're an alliance character, so i have NO idea how you got attacked... oh and one more thing- you have to stop using "..."

heeh I use "..." cuz that's how I speak ...in short sentences with pauses in between ..kinda like Jame T Kirk :E

I'm telling you there was 4 of them trolls in the tram ..dont know how they got there but they sure as hell surprised me ...with a crossbow bolt in the back

btw you must have a ton of stories from your adventures in azeroth...I'd like to hear some

not sure if it is in europe, but suicide42 was in the beta

come on people! there's a ton of you WoW players out there. I want stories! especially the kind where you look like an ass (my speciality)

k here's another one:

the second day of playing I had gotten pretty far and reached an area that was esentially a giant branch that had a very very long drop to the ocean/rocks below ..so I start heading back to where I wont be in danger of falling ..when I turn on my map but forget to disengage auotmatic run ..when I turn off the map, much to my surprise I'm falling ...for what seems like minutes...die on the way down. Not realising that when I appear in the cemetary I can choose to be ressurected by the angel of death, I'm off in wisp form to go look for my body ..I get to the branch and look down ..cant see my body but from the looks of my map I'm right on top of it ...so I jump off ...and drop and drop and drop ...and I drop right past my body ..so now I'm in the veiled sea, floating, looking up to what seems to be 100 feet to my lifeless body resting on the cliff ...no hope in retrieving it ...so now I have to swim to the nearest bay that will take me back to teledrasil (spelling?) cuz it's one giant island surrounded by 200 foot walls ...I swim and swim for at least 10 minutes and finally reach shore ...I finally get back to where my body is and I dont know what to do, so I look in the manual and sure enough it tells me I can resurrect myself at the cemetary! doh! 20 minutes of running and swimming for nothing!!!

I am thinking about getting this game.. but I dont really know much about warcraft or any of the classes.. since you seem to like WoW so much can you give me an overview of each race and class so it would make it easier for me to pick? I know it has it in the manuel but your point of view would be a little better i think :)

Hey cpt.stern, i did exactly the same thing in teldrassil with BOTH thenight elf characters i made in the US beta (if anyone asks, i'm canadian).

And i'm gonn write a tale that will pwn you all... in a sec... right now i'm playing the WOW EU open beta (i'm alt-tabbed out) :D

Here's my most recent story.

Race: Gnome
Level: 26
Class: Warlock
Realm: Non-PvP server (I can still PvP though :p)

Me and a fellow guildmate decided to get together and do the Blackfathom Deeps instance. Since he had some stuff to do, I went around and picked up all the quests for him to share. Once I was finished, I decided to go to Ashenvale (level 18-30 zone) and kill some time. As I was toying with lower level creatures, when some random person decided to attack Maestra's post. Around the first dozen times I ignored the local defense calls, but it finally started to get annoying.

Finally reports came in and said a level 27 orc warrior was pretty much destroying the outpost. It took me 5 minutes to realize that I could take him on since I'm a level 26 at the time. So I make my way over there and discovered that a group of 4 lvl 22-23 finally brought him down. Since I'm still waiting for my guildmate, I decide to camp his body.

If you are unfamilar with a non-PvP server, I still PvP a lot. The upside is I get to choose when to PvP. All I have to do to enable PvP is to attack a horde NPC or enter /pvp. To disable PvP, I merely have to wait 5 minutes for my PvP flag to go off. If you don't have PvP enabled, you can enable PvP by attacking somebody who has PvP enabled as well.

Well, since I'm the only alliance person around, he ressurects with his PvP flag enabled. He is standing right near me, he was pratically begging for me to attack him. Well, I appeased him. He got a few hits off then I feared him away. I then cast my DOTs (damage over time spells, a defining feature of the warlock class), and let him cook for a couple of seconds. He finally starts running back to me and is about to hit me when he dies from the last tick on one of my DOTs.

Well, this orc comes back a second time and surprises me. Result? One dead orc warrior. He never had a chance because I decided to open up other spells besides my DOTs.

Third time he waits for his PvP flag to disable and then proceeds to follow me around for a couple of minutes. Being one not to refuse a challenge, I enable my PvP while I was within melee range of him, he landed the first blow. My Orc friend is DOA by the time he recovers from his fear and close enough to strike me.

The fourth time was him being stupid. I got bored of annihilating him, so I went out to kill creatures. He was stupid enough to attack Maestra's post again. He conviently forgot about my ability to cast spells from 30 yards away. The poor guy never had a chance.

Finally I get my Blackfathom Deep group together and we are about to head there, when the same Orc was walking around with his PvP flag on. I see him, he see's me and he takes off running. Having 2 insta-cast DOT spells doomed him. The most hilarious thing was the fact he was running in the direction to Auberdine. Too bad the poor guy never crossed the boundary from Ashenvale to Darkshore.

Never mess with a Warlock. :)

I'm entrigued by WoW (having never really experienced a mmorpg)

How much actual role play is there? I've heard many describe levelling up and quests that involve travelling from one place to another. Alone this doesn't sound too appealing - what else is there?

I'm never comfortable with buying a game, then being charged monthly for it. It gives me the urge to play it all the time, make sure I get my money's worth, even when I don't feel like playing it. :|

WoW is as much of a RPG as Diablo is. In fact, WoW feels like a spiritual successor to Diablo 2 (especially concerning talent trees and a few other things). If you like Diablo 2, you will like WoW.

Very early on with my Gnome Warlock, I did notice some slight role playing elements about my race and class choices, but those have all fallen on the wayside. That is not to say that WoW doesn't have a good story, or good method of providing reasons for quests. Those are given. I just find roleplaying elements lacking a bit.

To be honest, wait a month or so before you buy the game so Blizzard has some time to fix some server troubles they are having. I have no doubt they will get them fixed, but they need time.

I'm putting effort into this...

Note: it's set in the deadmines

Suicide warily stepped forward, his heavy boots making a soft clunk on the hard, rocky ground. His armour felt cumbersome and awkward- the metal chain mail gripped his chest and stuck the woollen shirt to his skin with a sticky sweat. Wiping his forehead with a bulky leather glove Suicide breathed a large, heavy sigh and clunked on.

He was a heavy build- his muscles were bulging with strength as he pushed forward, and he wore an excessive amount of metal armour that seemed to be a burden more than protection. Most of it he had made himself and the clumsy flaws in his blacksmithing were noticeable, though they made no difference to it’s quality. In his left hand he grasped a trustworthy mace, glowing with a bright spell which almost acted as I light in this dark tunnel- and in the other hand he bore a bulky shield. His fair hair was swept back, but the sweat was dragging it forwards over his face so the warm liquid trickled over his straining eyes.

Others were with him- a gangly elf strode beside Suicide showing no sign of weariness or discomfort. In fact ever since she had been persuaded to come along at the inn she hadn’t shown any sign of emotion or even an interest in anything- the only creature she had paid more than a brief glance to was a mysterious spider that constantly crept beside her. Before it had seemed intimidated by the strong light and confident explorers but now it was hidden in the murky tunnel and the explorers’ confidence had faded to a nervous shuffle. The spider now eagerly glided through the shadows, almost gleeful as the displeasure of the other companions. Next to the elf stomped a dwarf who was clad in heavy armour. Looking at the short figure you would have expected him to have been crushed under the weight but instead he seemed exited and springy. The thought of hidden treasure was sparkling in his eyes and he was rushing to keep up with the others- but as soon as a far off noise was heard the sparkle was submerged in fear and he seemed to be reminded of the darkness. Though the elf paid little attention to the dwarf’s actions, every time she heard him utter a cry of torment a subtle smile slid over her perfect lips.

MORE TO COME!!!

clap clap, very nice blahblahblah and suicide (I want more of the adventures of suicide! :) ) but I did say stories of where you make an ass of yourself ..or am I the only one who does that?

well I cant really comment on classes cuz I've only played one: rogue, which I'm loving at the moment. the class/race trait is stealth ..you turn invisible and are able to creep up to unsuspecting enemies, good for sneaking through tough areas. I can also dual wield weapons and and I'm told create poisons ..although I kinda screwed up when i didnt choose alchemy as a skill

hunter class looks cool ..can tame wild animals to do your bidding ..use bows and such ...ummm the druid looks cool, you can shapechange into a bear for example ...I havent met too many other races or classes, mostly just elf, human and dwarf ...although I did meet a few trolls, but that didnt turn out so good :E

Quick Story.

I also have a level 47 dwarf paladin. Back when I was around level 23, me and a couple of night elves decide to group together for a quest. The quest was to find stonalthon mountains. We were having a good time, just chatting and exploring. Since we were looking for a tunnel, we naturally hugged the side of the mountains. We followed this one path up the side of a mountain for a while and it came to a dead end. We decided to jump in to a lake conviently placed below us.

We happily jump down to realize it was covered with lvl 28+ water elementals. We spent upwards of 45 minutes death hopping our bodies out of the water onto land. It took us another 30 minutes to realize we passed the tunnel for stonathlon mountains back in a much safer zone.

hahahha, leaping into the fire, that's hilarious ...heheh I did that a couple of times ..but instead of jumping into a elemental infested lake, I missed the water completely. I only died once though (very early on) :)

What server are you on? If I am going to get the game I wouldnt mind at least playing on one where I know somebody

edit: I am probley picking the game up tommorow.. I think the hunter class sounds good (taming animals and shooting bow) so I think I am going to do that.. what is a strong race?

It's not deadmines anymore :D

Suicide noticed the tunnel was getting darker and thinner, and slowly they were being forced into a single file. Carefully mounting the shield on his back, suicide lightly slid a pendant out of his pocket that showed a wonderfully sculpted image of a woman. He fumbled with the chain in his clumsy gloves and eventually managed to slide it over his neck so that when he walked it made a rhythmic clinking sound with his breastplate. As the tunnel was submerged in black the Human and the dwarf seemed to follow the glowing mace- while the elf slid her eyelids shut and walked as if she was gliding through a dream. The dwarf was disconcerted by this and tried to ignore the soft breathing of her nose, stubbornly clunking on and grunting every so often. Suicide ignored his odd companions and muttered something under his breath- the words of a spell. The gentle whisper of his lips was the technique for a healing spell, and as he did this the pendant around his neck began to glow faintly, but the dwarf kicked a stone and broke his concentration- plummeting the jewel into gloom once more.

All of a sudden the walls broke away and which left the companions feeling vulnerable. Even the elf kept a firm hand on her sheathed dagger, while the dwarf raised his axe and Suicide glanced around nervously. Realising their mistake Suicide signalled at the other two to quietly creep back to the tunnel but he suddenly became aware of their disorientation. The nervous glance rapidly hastened into a frantic search for light, and the three faced their backs to each other so that they were protected. Suicide grasped his pendant and faithfully held it tight as they waited for something to break the uncomfortable silence.

“Back in Ironfoge we didn’t need torches”, boomed the dwarf uneasily, “as we used the burning fire of our steel will to li-”
“Shut up.”
The elf did not look at the dwarf but instead had her eyes focused on something out of sight. Chuckling nervously after his embarrassment the dwarf realised that the spider had disappeared- and hoping it had been eaten by some sort of monster he relaxed the grip on his axe. Smirking at the elf he realised that this must be the reason for her sudden concern.

A far off rumble sent shards of rock plummeting from above, catching the companions off guard and jolting them into defensive stances. Fretfully surveying their surroundings the trio became frightfully aware that a beat could be heard in the distance, and the echoes increased until the whole cave was shaking with movement. A light flickered at the end of the tunnel and then disappeared - but was left un-noticed in the confusion. Rocks were now falling freely and the group huddled together. The elf whipped out her bow and drew back an arrow, darting it around, anticipating something big. The dwarf’s eyes were passionate with rage as he prepared for battle and Suicide calmly uttered a spell under his breath. The beating was incredibly loud now and was recognisable of a beast running, and as a huge creature smashed through the tunnel and lunged a claw at them they were sent hurtling back into rock.

More tommorrow- bed now :Z

Our guild, Shadowed Honor, had a big raid on the Crossroads last night. About 30 of us grouped up and hit an Orc camp. It wasn't long before other Orc and Tauren PC's came to the aid of the NPC's. Before we knew it, there were probably 75 people all battling it out. I'm only a 35 Human Paladin, so once the fighting got thick, I didn't last long. A level 43 Tauren Warrior came up to me and starting wailing on me with dual wield. After exhausting all my shields and lay on hands, I finally went down. After it was all over, I zoomed out to look at the aftermath. Skeletons were scattered all over the place. It was an awesome sight. I can't wait till Battlegrounds are added, so things like this are more commonplace.

Hehe, I did the exact same thing when I started out as a night elf. Though I went to help and hit the "stuck" button to return me to the town. ;)

I don't really have any great stories yet. About the only thing I can think of is there was a group of five of us in a cave in Silverpine forest and we were working our way through just fine...until I, in a brilliant move, decided to jump up on this one rock for better view. Of course I jumped a little too far and fell off the other side and into a group of about 5 monsters causing the entire group to be slaughtered. Was slightly embarassing.

There is everything you need to know at www.worldofwarcraft.com
If you still have no idea then tell me via PM or MSN (If you have it, I can't be bothered finding out )

Here some sites with info:

I will give you a little bit on the warcraft story from thier history book (Great read if you are into the whole fantasy type of story)

*ahem*
(10,000 years before Warcraft 1)

The Highborne's reckless use of magic sent ripples of energy spiraling out from the Well of Eternity and into the Great Dark Beyond. The streaming ripples of energy were felt by terrible alien minds. Sargeras - the Great Enemy of all life, the Destroyer of Worlds - felt the potent ripples and was drawn to their distant point of origin. Spying the primordial world of Azeroth and sensing the limitless energies of the Well of Eternity, Sargeras was consumed by an insatiable hunger. The great dark god of the Nameless Void resolved to destroy the fledgling world and claim its energies as his own.

Sargeras gathered his vast Burning Legion and made his way towards the unsuspecting world of Azeroth. The Legion was comprised of a million screaming demons, all ripped from the far corners of the universe, and the demons hungered for conquest. Sargeras' lieutenants, Archimonde the Defiler and Mannoroth the Destructor, prepared their infernal minions to strike.

Queen Azshara, overwhelmed by the terrible ecstasy of her magic, fell victim to Sargeras' undeniable power and agreed to grant him entrance to her world. Even her Highborne servitors gave themselves over to magic's inevitable corruption and began to worship Sargeras as their god. To show their allegiance to the Legion, the Highborne aided their queen in opening a vast, swirling portal within the depths of the Well of Eternity.

Once all his preparations had been made, Sargeras began his catastrophic invasion of Azeroth. The warrior-demons of the Burning Legion stormed into the world through the Well of Eternity and laid siege to the night elves' sleeping cities. Led by Archimonde and Mannoroth, the Legion swarmed over the lands of Kalimdor, leaving only ash and sorrow in its wake. The demon warlocks called down searing infernals that crashed like hellish meteors into the graceful spires of Kalimdor's temples. A band of burning, bloodletting killers known as the Doomguard marched across Kalimdor's fields, slaughtering everyone in their path. Packs of wild, demonic felhounds ravaged the countryside unopposed. Though the brave Kaldorei warriors rushed to defend their ancient homeland, they were forced to give ground, inch by inch, before the fury of the Legion's onslaught.

That is only a small portion, I strongly recommend that you read it. 6 pages long...

And I was out killing things in the Blasted Lands working on getting to level 50 last night and got my first non-instance blue item! :p A little trinket that has a 2% chance when I'm hit of giving me a holy shield that absorbs damage for a while...

Another good time was when I had an elite demon enslaved and wtfowned pretty much all the Horde in Desolace. :p

Letters: you're one cheeky bugger :) that pic is classic

I have a level 35 Human Warrior on Magtheridon, but recently my friend got the game so I created a Night Elf Rouge with him, when he created a Night Elf Warrior. I started it Friday and I'm level 17 now, which isn't bad.

But anyways, the story..we were playing and we were in this forest with tons of npc monsters around, so I thought "maybe I can use my sprint ability and agro the guys while you run behind me."

So we did it and it worked really well..it was awesome! I know it's nothing special, you kind of had to be there.

Anyways, another story is when I was in the Arathi Highlands and we were near one of the Horde Towns. I fell a little behind my two friends (not much) and this 32 Tauren Shaman came out of the town thinking I was alone. Then as we were fighting I called my two friends over. Unfortunately I died, but after I died my friend shot a fireball JUST as he was getting out of range and owned him while he was running away. It was amazing!

k here's my latest story in the Many Misadventures of Sternn™

so for some odd reason I decided to swim around the northern tip of Darkshore to see if I could find a shortcut to the next country Moonglade, which I'm about to find out is completely surrounded by a cliffside that overlooks the sea and is completely inaccesible from where I am ..so I'm swimming for 30 minutes now trying to find an entrance into Moonglade, which at this point I've completely passed when I finally get to what looks like an entrance way beyond some waterfalls but I also see a few monsters swimming around (the first since leaving darkshore ..at this moment I've reach the inner most point between Azshara and Winterspring ...that harbour-looking area) ..there's a giant hydra thing and a lobster type monster. I hover my mouse on it to discover it's a level 43 monster ..I'm only level 20 at this point. So I try to avoid it by hugging the wall and getting as far away as possible when I stumble into a lobsterlike monster when I turn a bend ..It chases me and in 2 quick hits I'm dead ..

so I resurrect in a cemetary ..in the middle of Azshara (here's a great WoW map ..I started near darkshore and went north)

So I start working my way south to try to find some countryside I recognise ..I reach an open area and see 2-3 giants (5 times my size) so I try stealth to walk through them ...apparently mosters many levels higher than you can see through your stealth mode ..these giants were level 57 ...so 2 of the giants have seen me so I start running (hit sprint) towards what looks like a cliff and jump off ..only to drop about 10 feet. I managed to get stuck for a few seconds amongst the boulders which was enough time for the first giant to catch up to me ..and step on me ..I'm dead again ..as I died I saw that his one hit took away 750 odd hitpoints ..I only have 600 at this point.

It took me 3 more tries in getting my body and sneaking past the giants before I finally gave up, got the angel of death to resurect me and hit my teleportation stone to take me back to darkshore ...moral of story: dont go swimming alone looking for lobsters, you'll only end up running into giants that step on you! :E

I think everyone can learn from Stern's example in a deep and truly meaningful way.

Yesterday I was coming out of the Undercity with my lvl 16 priest when I saw a gnome (lvl 30 i later found out) trying to get in to the city, flagged nonetheless. Not having my 31 warrior, I called it out, to the disbelief of others at UC. Needless to say, the gnome was quickly dispatched by a 38 mage and a couple of the city guards.

I murdered a couple of undead in the Barrens the other night. I was in the area questing, not far from the Valley of Fangs, when a pair of undead start strolling through the area. They were flagged for some reason, so I flagged myself, jumped on my mount, and took off after them. I caught up rather quickly and jumped off my horse. I took aim at the 32 undead mage first, and with Seal of the Crusader plus Hammer of Justice, he was dispatched quickly. By the time the undead Priest traveling with him noticed his buddy getting tortured, it was too late. He came running back to assist just as the mage fell. He decided to run. I jumped back on my mount and chased him down like the evil scum he is. After dismounting I hit him with the Hammer of Justice and began whaling on him with my giant two-handed mace. His cloth armor didn't stand a chance against me. He used a few of his mind spells on me, and prolonged his death for a few seconds, but it was over soon. He feel to the ground in defeat. I hope those undead realize it's not a good idea to run around contested areas with pvp flagged.

Haha, I love how this is becoming a racial thing.

Night Elf done stole my television! :O

My few WoW moments

Char: Septih, lvl 27(as of time posted) orcish Rogue (Euro Beta[UK] PVP 8)
Qualities: Coward :p(basically i run away a lot)

1. Location: Windshear Crag[stonetalon mountains] Level: 21
was having a bit of fun torturing some venture co guys when a lvl 33 night elf starts to chase me, thus begins a long chase with various intervals of a)him casting slow on me to catch up b) me casting sprint to get away. the chase lasts from the river in windsher to just outside sun rock. i come back a few minutes later to find a load of horde people killing him, i kick hima couple of times for revenge.

2) Location: Ashenvale Level: 20 something
Doing the ashenvale outrunners quest i get caught up fighting one outrunner and being attacked halfway through by a brown sap thingy. I manage to complete my quest by killing the elf and kill the sap to survive with 1 HP. the sap drops a chest...i open the chest...chest is trap...i die :(

3) Perhaps my most positive experience:
Location Ashenvale. Level: 24
I'm looking around for some thistlefurs for a quest and stumble upon a lvl 25 night elf hunter, she seems a bit preoccupied but isn't exactly prime game so i carry on running past. next thing i know i'm tagged and i have a lvl 25 dino coming at me, to make things worse i run straight into some beasts in the forest, needless to say i die. Now i'm pretty peeved at this , when i respawn shes in the same area so i decide to stalk her for a bit. In the rules of fair play i don't attack her when shes taken damage, so i wait in stealth for her dino to take care of the latest victim and carefully sneak up behind her and sap her, while sapped mr. dino goes bye bye. During this she regins focus and after a few arrows from her and enough hits to take out half her health she runs towards the sentry at the lake nearby, guarded by ?? sentinals. but i'd rather have revenge then lether go, i chase her down and kill her just as the guards close in on me. But i have a trick up my sleeve, a little flash powder and i vanish, victorious. revenge is sweet :D

dont worry Stern, ive done that twice...damn mountains, you think they put one liitle path in there somewhere
