I just got done watching that bink video and I noticed that the NPC guy on the crane shoots at the rocket when it's fired at him. That is pretty cool. I wonder if the NPC's can destroy the rockets if there's more then one NPC shooting at it? Its little touches like this that's going to make this game amazing :)
 
Yeah, I didn't see that before. Good eye.

I bet when the game is switched from "retard" difficulty to normal these combine guys will be pretty sharp.
 
What about hard difficulty? Then theyll be double pretty sharp :p And thats one thing i want for sure, smart AI :thumbs:
 
Well, usuallyin games the top-most difficulties are more about health and damage balancing then AI...but if it isn't, I'll def. be playing on hard.
 
Cool , i didnt notice that either. Maybe if he also had a rocket launcher he would of probably got it.

Yeah, you say that now. But when the AI starts owning you every time, you'll wish you could say "That's because it does a lot more damage than me!" or "That's because it has more life than me!" instead of "That's because the computer is more intelligent than me!"

Well the airboat scene had gordon shooting rockets out of the air with that funky machine gun thingy, so i dun see why not.
 
I just watched that again, and that is awesome that that NPC follows the missile. I think he actually starts shooting at it as well. I can't wait to see the AI this game is going to offer.

Non-Player Character. Basically an entity in the world controlled by artificial intelligence, such as the combine soldiers, headcrabs, etc.

They won't "dumb down" the enemy AI for easy mode. I'm pretty confident they will still be very advanced. They did this in the original, but I think they will come up with a better way in Half-Life 2 to make it easy for retarted newbies. Actually, I think I remember hearing about this! In an interview I read it said that as you play, it would adjust to your difficulty level. I may be wrong, but if I'm not, I don't know if I would like this myself.. Some people might, though i.e Retarded newbs

What is all that about??

The dynamic difficulty was something that someone mentioned as an idea. Won't be in the final game.

I don't think they made the AI dumber in the original HL.. Just made them do less damage and stuff.

Woahh.... Sorry about that. Didn't mean to piss anyone off.
By "retarded newbie" I meant people like my little sister may want to play this awesome game. And people like my little sister can barely aim at all with a mouse, or move around with the WASD keys.
But Valve did tone down the intelligence in Half-Life for easy. On hard mode, they used more advanced flanking maneuvers and stuff. They did took more damage, but they also had other abilities. I shouldn't have called somebody less skilled than me a retarded newbie. And I was wrong about the dynamic difficulty.
I wasn't trying to come off as a jerk. Sorry.
 
I just hope that harder difficulty = higher enemy health. It was so stupid how you had to empty a whole magazine into a grunt's head from point blank.
 
I think the difficulty settings will be like Halo (For Xbox - never played the pc version) where the AI is much smarter at the difficutly you play. Ever play Halo on Heroic or Legendary; it just gets crazy insane, but it's a lot funner.

I dont think you was being a jerk petabyte...i just think vegeta has a very short fuse, and needs to control himself a tad more! If someone says something wrong, theres ways of correcting them nicely, so that you are helping them, rather than insulting them :) Good luck with that! :thumbs:

i wonder if he would ever jump off the tower if hes in danger, say he didnt have a gun, and the rocket was going for him. That would be dumb becuase he would die, but it would be funny :p

I'm almost positive that Bungie said the AI in Halo does nothing new on the Legendary difficulty setting. They just do more damage, take less damage, exist in larger numbers, etc.
