Ok, so school started yesterday and I'm a Sophomore now.

My best friend's brother is a Freshman now, so I get to talk with him once in awhole now... he's cool too. So anyways, he's in my Chemistry class which is "advanced" for a Freshman, you might say. So, this woman teacher (who says "mmkay" a lot, and it bugs the shit outta me) on the FIRST DAY points him out and says:

"Oh, you're a Freshman... so you haven't taken Biology yet have you?"

"No."

"Well, normally, I'd rather have Freshman take Biology before they have my class. This class gets hard. I mean, I've had Freshmen before and they do fine but, you know?"

RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS, in front of all Sophomores and Juniors, embareassing him, ON HIS FIRST DAY OF HIGH SCHOOL. I mean, damn, lady, take this outsie of class or AFTER class.

So, whatever, I feel bad for him and I think she'll shut up about it.

He gets online that night and messages me saying:

"You think I should switch to Bio?"

"Naa, man, if I were you, I'd stay to piss her off. You'll be fine."

"Ah, cool."

So anyways, today, I get in the class. FIRST THING SHE DOES IS POINT HIM OUT AGAIN.

"Kevin," (that's his name) "the office needs you to come down there. Are you switching?"

"No."

"... Honey," she walks up to him with a paper in her hand and starts to write on it saying 'Should start Biology first, but can take Chem and Bio at the same time, if wanted.' "I think this class will be too hard for you, you should switch. Unless you want to take Bio and Chem together."

"Heh, I don't want that much homework."

"Then you should switch."

LOOK, YOU TWAT, HIS GRADE ADVISORS WOULDN'T HAVE LET HIM CHOOSE CHEM IF HE WASN'T SMART ENOUGH. YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HIM. SHUT THE **** UP!

Goddamn, take this out of class, not embareass him in front of everyone. Mother-****!

Tell her that to her FACE. Then slap her.

I don't like teachers that patronize people, there were some at my school that used to treat me as if I we're disabled or something.

You. Have. No. Idea. How. Much. I'd. Like. To. Do. That.
Except the slap part.

look guys ...teachers go through thousands of students throughout their careers ..for the most part you're just a name and a number ...we really dont hold grudges like most people think ...what it seems to me is that she was trying to be helpful ..but just didnt do it appropriately ...remember you're a teenager ..your social life is everything ..not so for the teacher ..you're education is everything

that said she could have done it on purpose ...but in my experience the majority of the times when you think a teacher hates you it's probably not true (I was a teacher for 7 years) ...although some of you just piss us off

There's really no excuse for being outright rude

you dont know that's what her intent was ...she could have thought she was being helpful ...let me give you an example:

how many times has your mother called your name in the middle of a crowd of people? wasnt it a little bit embarrassing? ...she's not thinking to herself "hey I shouldnt yell my son's name in a crowded shopping mall" ..the only thing she's thinking is "where the hell is that kid I've been ready to leave for 30 mins"

I know cuz I'm a father and I find myself doing things that my young version would have been embarrassed over

Is this high school or college?

I remember my english teacher in 7th grade was a real a**. She treated us like we were seniors, including C's for doing just what she asked for (any other teacher, it would be an A), 4 essays due in 2 days, and we had to read chapters of novels in one day and write an essay on it when we came back to school. Needless to say, the majority of her students had a C or below. There were only 5 people that managed to get an A (students that turned in papers that would shame anyone majoring in English)...

On top of that, she hated me and even said it in my face...

Thank God I'm in 9th grade :D

Chemistry is usually a high-school sophomore class, which is the whole point of the story.

Last year in 11th, my english teacher failed about 70 percent of the class, there was one A. How bout them apples!?

i have a math teacher this year,he just keeps repeating himself over and over again, if someone doesnt get the material he would "explain" it, then the whole class keeps asking him wtf to do and he says "you guys have the memory span of a goldfish" (and we are not doing it to get on his nerves), i just want to slap him across the face and say "IF THE WHOLE CLASS ISNT LEARNING THE MATERIAL THEN IT'S NOT THE CLASS THAT NEEDS TO BE TAUGHT!!!!"

Do not listen to teachers. They have no clue what's best for you. YOU yourself know what's best for you.

Tell him to do whatever he wants to do.

i know thats not right...im just saying that hes not the best teacher that i have ever had, and he needs to learn that the whole class dosnt get it

yah i agree.. that is really dumb.. she shouldnt have done that and especially on the first day of his high school years..

What I would have done is taken him out of class, or talked to him after, if I really had a problem with it. But I wouldn't because I'd think: "Hmm, maybe he's smart enough to take this class," which obviously SHE didn't think. I know I fretting over another persons problem (which I never do) but... god, I can't get this off my mind.

I had a similar teacher a few times too. I guess it made the students more independent, and made them take responsibility of their own lives.

or not

My summer school physical science teacher *I was a senior taking this class...funny as hell* he would come up to me in the best Cheech voice ever *he was a fuggin hippy...* Hey man, you could, ya know, pass this class NOO problem. You're one of those kids that knows he can do it, that's why he doesn't. I appreciate that man.. *walk off*...

Then the next day, we had to trace a classmate, and draw his bones/muscles/organs/etc and name them. The cool part was, he allowed us to do whatever. I mean, his drawing that he was demonstrating, and tits and a huge cock....O_O

oh yeah, on topic...
I had a teacher like that. Just ignore her throws, and have him tell her that he's alright where he is, and if she would like to continue class, he'd be MUCH obbliged.

Wait for an opening in her defence, then lob a grenade in to scatter the bees. Then you can shotgun her. Or was that the Pain?

This reminds me of a teacher I had who looked like a hobbit. And she would shout at people for no reason, rant and rave at people for the tiniest of things, then break down crying because she felt the class was bullying her. Once she was handing out paperclips to clip our work together. She absentmindedly gave me about seven and then walked off without giving my friend any. My friend says "can I have one?" DETENTION! And then there was the time that she sent out most of the class so didn't have anyone left to teach except Fred, the ubernerd, who suddenly walked out the door to join us juvinile deliquents.

"Whoah, Fred, what did you get sent out for?"
"I didn't, I walked out."

I think I know how to make you really popular and own your teacher, without you being able to get into trouble.

The next time the teacher says this to him, just raise your hand. When she says "Yes?"

You would then explain how it isnt fair on the guy to embaris him like this, and you really should talk to him outisde of lessons, as its none of teh rest of the classes buissness, and its not very professional to talk about it infront of everyone.

You'd think that.

However, never try to correct a teacher in anyway if they are evil sadistic bastards. Most of my teachers (yr 11) are pretty damn good. Then comes my English teacher and all hell breaks loose.

"For the next 7 weeks you need to compare two books or one book and a movie in several ways."
"Can I read Dune?"
"No"
"Uh, May I ask why?"
"It's conceptive fiction."
"I thought the whole idea of fiction, is that it was conceptive."
"I've read Dune, I know what it's about. It has space battles."
"Uh Dune doesn't have space battles. In fact there is only one real battle in the entire series."

You'll allways be called a smartass in the end. Thankgod I'm dropping English next year.

Lol, Id agree.

You are pretty essentcial.

That sounds exactly like my school (Freshman taking bio usually, sophomores taking chem usually, exceptions rarely, and an annoying "mmkay" teacher.) except for the fact that it began yesterday. I don't have school for another 1 1/2 weeks!

Isn't bio a lot tougher than chem? Well to me it is anyway.

I'm pretty sure the school boards have a system where they actually put all the mmkay... teachers as freshman teachers...

This is what I've gathered about smart people:

Biology -- not nerds
Chemistry -- nerds

<3 cpt stern! we love you all for your great words of wisdom!

If that really bugged him or embarassed him he will probably kill himself before his senior year. I didn't see anything bad in it at all, she wasn't saying it was too hard for HIM.

The problem is she doesn't KNOW him. So what if he's a Freshman? He's most likely 3 times more smarter than me. She has no right on the first day NOT EVEN KNOWING HIS NAME saying: this. class. will. be. too. hard. How the hell would she ****ing know? She doesn't.

It wasn't even a bad thing to say. She pointed out the fact that it's not a Freshman class and he's statistically more likely to struggle not having taken Biology before hand, and said to just make sure everything was right, not everyone knows the class is harder and such before signing up.

Seriously that's actually a good thing she said, too. His life is going to suck if that was actually offensive or he felt she should personally know him or something. There's no time for that in real life.

Meh, it was the way she said it, though. It was belittling to the max. Meh, it just really bothered me since I mean, damn, his first day of High School. It was only a year ago for me but you older people on these forums probably remember it thinking: " ... Holy shit."

I don't know about your school but we have class advisors that come into the classroom when we pick our classes. She reccomends stuff and we can build on that to choose what we want. Then, we enter the classes into the computer. If the class advisor thought it would be too tough for him, she have said something.

I don't believe a teacher "personally" knows you by the end of the year unless you talk to him/her everyday. As someone else said, you're just a number and a name -- nothing more. She could have said something to him once, maybe warning him that it'll be hard but then leaving it at that. I mean, if it was too hard for him, he would switch, it's really not up to her to make that decision, even though she's a teacher. The student should be the one to say: "Okay, this IS too hard for me, I better switch," and not being forced into switching.

I'm probably over-reacting but it struck me in a VERY negitive way, so much I needed to vent. Meh.

...I don't see why it would necessarily be mandatory to take biology before chemistry. In fact, a good foundation in chemistry would help spades in biology, not as much so vice versa.
